It’s the validation of the perspective, particularly from someone like Kendrick with the entire world’s ear, for me
Thanks fam
I feel you fam fr
Love it man, find it super expressive and creative and open. Feels very human
can see why others wouldnt like it though
Facts
I’m not saying he didn’t encourage it
I’m just saying he was viewed like that
He not just encouraged it
He created it lol
i often love watching the arc of artists going through the motions of getting cocky with fame and then eventually just getting insanely cynical (or depressed alternatively) and putting out albums like these. probably a weird comparison but it reminds me a lot of Mark Kozelek/SKM's later work honestly (albeit way more accessible) in terms of albums just composed of them ranting about the world and themselves from as cynical a POV as humanly possible
very true, good comparison lol
you could see big chunks of this sentiment in DAMN. already and even TPAB as I've said earlier in thread
it was very obvious that kendrick was not really a guy who liked being famous and i like on this album him talking about the ways in which he did try to "live like a celebrity" and didn't find it fulfilling (sorry to the Danish chick)
yea like you were saying yesterday that first 3 track run is crazy
Covers so much ground musically and lyrically and really just throws you in the deep end
Yeah those plus crown and we cry together are my top 5
I don’t get the Oprah mention tho. Isn’t she always super safe with what she says?
Yes
He should move to film on account of how the medium allows other people to be the mouthpiece for a creator's thoughts/feelings/ideas with a stronger sense of "depictions of _ aren't endorsements of those ideas" than you typically find in rap or general music criticism. If you'd like to work out some unwieldy discourse thats been stuck in your head but also don't like being called a savior for doing so, step behind a camera
cant decide how i feel about Die Hard, loved tracks 1-3 though so far
Its THE grower of the album imo. On first listen wasnt sold either
Rocky isn't capable of making an album this mid after a 5 year hiatus sorry to say.
rocky stan but testing ain't better than this fam
Kendrick has the privilege to cheat cuz he rich and famous, if it wasn't for his rap career this squirrel would'vn't been loose like this
I will NOT let them cancel Kendrick for saying that word
Nigga think he batman
I wanted a Vince feature right there
Maybe I’m bugging but this kinda is pretty reminiscent of Vinces last two projects
I will NOT let them cancel Kendrick for saying that word
Nothing is actually going to happen aside from conversation
Unrelated but kinda not, I feel like Mac uses it on Inside Outside
"Mafucka, I'm that" and then he yells "Nigga!"
Try and tell you that it ain't real
Tell 'em, "Find that yeti"
Motherfucker I'm that yeti!
he even says on the album "Oh, you worried 'bout a critic? That ain't protocol" bc i think he understands the critics giving him a ball-washing with everything he puts out are not even engaging with the actual album
they are some of the biggest culprits in fostering public misrepresentation of who he actually is, and that grates at him severely
Thats gotta be so soul crushing
