I don’t think Kenny was working on the album for 5 years.. I think he was just living life, enjoying the birth of his daughter, etc. and came back to writing when he got inspired.

Nah I don’t think so. I think Kendrick is at the same place as Kanye used to be (still is for some people) where no matter what they’re gonna call it incredible/classic because of the art of it all.
