WESLEYS THEORYYes, and also the pedestal people put him on after TPAB saying his was the next Tupac or whatever. He tried to tell people he was just a mortal man and they made him into a messiah. This album was a big old "fuck you" to that idea. He doesnt want the titles.
Tupac had the same s*** wit Me Against The World
People loved it when Pac did it too

MangoIt is a message of individualism at the end of the day like you're saying (I choose myself, nobody is your savior, I'm more kodak than problack, etc) but idk, I feel kinder, more considerate after this album. Society is divisive and he managed to be correct on a lot of issues (systemic ones) while saying that's just humanity, that's something you achieve through experience. It's not that deep basically.
I don't feel preached to which is what I was worried about. I've never identified with Kendrick's music like this before, not really. I can see myself in here. I can see my family in here.
I like his message when it comes to approaching interpersonal relationshipsa lot more here, those don't feel resentful at all, but most of the social commentary the more he looks outwardly on here kinda falls flat for me
I feel like damn is that album for me that connected with me the most on a personal level

EfficacyI think it has some of the most raw Kendrick tracks, but I wouldn't call it the most raw album with all the silky smooth pop tracks that were added for no reason whatsoever IMO
I agree that there are definitely some moments on the album that go out of scope

lets be honest, reviewers arent reviewing it based on the music, they're viewing it based on context and how introspective the album is. there isn't anything wrong with that per-se, but the reviews should be looked at as a measurement of relevancy not a measurement of quality
