I think it’d help if more people understood that Kendrick generally isn’t trying to educate on this album. It’s more about his emotions personified and given entire voices/character arcs, his personal growth unfiltered, and redemption. It’s ugly and messy and gives no answers but it’s not supposed to.

The album is extremely confusing and weird but not in a ā€œhe missed the markā€ way. It’s a raw, honest take on the world from the a bunch of different perspectives.

Niggas are forgetting he grew up in f***ing COMPTON. If he’s giving voice to all of the complex emotions he’s felt growing up and experiencing life, he has to play a young compton kid, a drunk womanizer, a flashy rapper, and several other things. Baring all your most problematic, flawed traits like that is going to be unsettling no matter what and I’m glad he didn’t hold back.

    Theory Time:

    1) Big Stepper: Moral and/yet Overstepping boundaries(?)
hence Overstep = to step over or beyond.

    2) This album is a mess because hes in therapy.

    3) Interesting that Worldwide Steppers introduces Kodak and he talks about f***ing white b****es.

Maybe but then at the end he censors it and says ā€œf word f word f wordā€ so idk if that was to represent him growing and learning?

    yeah for sure

Silent Hill... he kinda wasted beat lowkey first listen I might change mind

    Yak went off still

  • May 13, 2022

people are already taking the lyrics way outta context which is hilarious because that’s exactly who he was slandering on the album. he really nailed rapping from wildly different perspectives and went as far as he needed to when that was clearly a difficult thing to do with some of the opinions he was conveying.

mother I sober is special man

This and Aunty diaries and we cry together is Kendrick at his best and doing what he is known for.

These are what separate him from everyone else.

They may not be ā€œbangersā€ you go back to, but you never forget how they made you feel and think.

It’s funny seeing how some of you complain about how commercial DAMN was and you wanted something more left field, and then he’s gives you something on the opposite side of the spectrum, and then you have the audacity to complain about how it sounds not assessable or not catchy enough.

This album is pretty bleak and pessimistic I would say but haven’t finished it yet. Feel like it’s a departure in a way, where you had silver linings or some sort of redemption or clarity in TPAB and Damn.

DAMN. can’t be his best with that mid stretch in the middle

Only track i could possibly see being argued as ā€œmidā€ or ā€œfillerā€ from the middle section of the album would be PRIDE.

  • bossyyyyy

Okay in that sense I can get down w u

V poorly conveyed. Imo would’ve been better in worldwide steppers

i thought it felt appropriate there but he needed to elaborate a little more or put in in the middle of the song rather than the end but a big part of the song was coming to understand them after being ignorant and dismissive and a big part of that was the perspective switch, which that conveyed.
