Shabazz Palaces - The Don of Diamond Dreams

If you're into experimental hip-hop and afro-futurism this is the album for you. Like most Shabazz Palaces albums, it hits all the right notes when it comes to good weird music. It also has a nice blend of modern trap music fused with electronic dance music. The frontman, Ishmael Butler has said that he personally took a lot of inspiration in his cadence and flows on this project from his son rapper Lil Tracy. So if you're a fan of Lil Tracy and his contemporaries, this might be an album worth checking out.

The album as a whole is most certainly a vibe with elements of: jazz, pop, electronic, and of course hip-hop throughout. You will find yourself at first being confused by what you're hearing, but likely bobbing your head along with it as the weirdness just works well and keeps you engaged.

My one knock of the album is that some tracks do drag a bit, and you notice it because there are moments when a track probably should've ended maybe a minute earlier. The two songs that come to mind for this are Bad B**** Walking and Fast Learner. I say they go on a bit longer than they should, however those two tracks are also some highlights I'd recommend from the album.

I can definitely see myself returning to this album throughout the year. I actually went ahead and ordered the vinyl, at first because the artwork is hard af, but again the album really just does it for me. I was in the mood for something weird and futuristic and it hits man, the lyrics and production scream that this is some space age pimpin music. I'd say this is Shabazz Palace's second best album after Black Up.

Was just revisiting Cormega's 1st 3 albums, The Realness, The True Meaning & The Testament. Totally underrated lyricist with a few gems sprinkled across those 3 LP's.

The Testament was the weakest one but I see what he was going for. Always wonder what a Mega album.wouldve been with the full support of The Firm.

1st 3 Beanie Sigel albums along with the 1st State Property album have been getting a lotta spins too.
