Rock that Fela Kuti would be proud of 😊
it also has high moments of Afrobeat, Latin Jazz, Spoken Word, Funk, Reggae and the vocals are soo good, wow!
“This album brings to light the strength and endurance of us as HUMANS. A personal journey and documentation of most of the obstacles we have faced as we have moved from 2 different worlds and how we have overcome these struggles through the freedomof art and music through a firm connection with our roots and culture. It's music from our soul telling stories how we were told growing up and merging grooves and African rhythms to exhibit the spirit of AFRICA in relation to where we are in the diaspora” - K.O.G

I'm very picky about albums in this genre xD not a lot of newer records this good I know of tbh
But if you just go in with an open mind and try to focus on the songwriting/instrumentation on first listen then you'll find more to like about it
Starboy
7/10
A good chunk of it is filler (attention, true colors, stargirl interlude, love to lay, ordinary life) . Some of them songs are a bit corny and try-hard to be full on pop. But the rest of the tracks are good

I liked the first two songs more than I thought I would lmao
Nice to see Mariah the Scientist on the tracklist too! Other than that song the solo songs were much more enjoyable. 21 songs were just too much for me, quickly becomes redundant and pointless. A great improvement on what I've heard from him before nonetheless.
4.5/10
loved the ambient vibe on this one
the ghost has no home >>

Oh, nice! that album is p hard for some people to get into glad you liked it.
I've been bumping this all weekend and this morning too!

still trying to form a solid statement on it but I love what I'm hearing from Bowie going into this 80s decade

Damn 😣
Classic album indeed, how did you find the change/progression in sound compared to the trilogy he did with Eno?

i like it a lot because its more 80s 'new wave/pop' style like Let's Dance without fully going in that direction, if that makes sense. also with better production and instrument sound (especially drums) imo than Let's Dance
outstanding instrumentation especially all the guitar from Fripp. especially on Teenage Wildlife, where it recalls some of Heroes sound which is awesome
i think it's less consistent than the Berlin trilogy albums though. imo the 1st half is like a 9 and the 2nd is a 7.5 lol. Ashes to Ashes will always be in my top 5 songs from him but the 4 songs following it are my least favorite on the album
Crystal Japan is a nice gem from that era too if you havent heard. Trent Reznor accidentally ripped it off on Downward Spiral
