But I’m asking for a source of income that gives me time that I can allocate to good causes. A 9-5 does not provide that.

    Well idk then

There is use for the 2nd house though, enough people will want the extra space, in an extra location, for various reasons.

    Such as?

So you want rental property to become government owned?

    F*** that

What the benefit of it being in the hands of private individuals instead of state owned?

It's not something that should be 'handled', it's the freedom to do with something you own.

You never truly own anything. A government can be voted in and take your property from you. That very nearly happened in 2017 in the UK. Corbyn was proposing a law to seize property empty for more than 6 months.

    Ownership is all imaginary nonsense.

I disagree with you here. I think empty property should absolutely be seized by the government. There are properties empty for many years whilst people are on the streets, and during a massive housing crisis.

Don't use a property without good reason then have it seized.

  • If I already have hatred & distrust of landlords, what would be better about a corrupt state running housing? I have a feeling they’d be even more ruthless.

You'd have 0 ability of negotiation and you probably couldn't get a better home even if you wanted.

You might own your little spot but you're most likely going to be stuck with it.

    Nah I'd rather not.

Considering how many politicians prolly have interests aligned with real estate industry I dont think that's feasible at all. Where are they now? Not even making symbolic gestures to ppl about to be evicted

progressive caucus has been bringing this up on social media from what ive heard. bernies platform ran on those policies as well i think. i agree that the establishment is too embroiled in that industry to help

    Oh empty? Yes.

I meant the government having the right to seize any property they want.

That's not how it works. It is actually easier to move to a different areas under a state owned public housing system. You literally just swap houses with people in other parts of the country. That is how it works.

It is extremely simple and has worked for decades in countries all over the world.

I am not for free housing by the way. I think houses should be owned by the government and the government charge affordable rent. Basically non profit housing.
