Lmfaoo as if capitalism isn’t the epitome of lack of innovation. Capitalism is taking a good idea and mass producing it for extremely cheap by minimizing the quality and overpricing the f*** out of it. No innovation there. Look at every genre of music before it became mainstream. Tell me that there’s innovation as soon as executives get involved.
This argument that innovation is a byproduct of capitalism is a f***ing s*** narrative. I bet more people would be innovative if they had the time to be rather than working 40 hours a week to barely make rent
yes but less people would be more innovative as well, because there would be little no financial gain from your labor put into creating said innovation
capitalism isn’t about mass producing, it’s about a completely free market / private ownership, which btw, the US isn’t even a 100% capitalist county, since the government does regulate some aspects of the market
95% of landlords are a******s. Moved into a flat and was told that I'd be living alone, found out when I moved in that the landlord was actually living there too and lied in the contract. Moved out ASAP and got all my money back luckily by law
my friend also got ghosted by his landlord when it was moving out time because they clearly didn't want to give my friend back their deposit. They wouldn't answer their phone/texts and wouldn't respond to letters they sent either.
Another friend's landlord wouldn't let their boyfriend sleep over at all despite there being nothing in the contract stating this.

system working as intended, the landlord f***ed you over, the law protected you
s***ty situation, but it’s not like you were completely screwed by the landlord in the end, and I hardly think that would constitute the need to abolish landlords
This is an anecdote lol
you didn't say this to all the people in care caping for landlords

this is like saying cuz you got robbed by some black dude at 3 am in the city, that 95% of black people are a******s.
no amount of empathy or emotional growth will ever replace the universal notion that we all the want the best for ourselves, at the cost of others.
From the George Floyd dolls being sold on Instagram to the result of d*** trafficking through "socialist" Venezuelan politics, this has always been true.
I think this is just differing views on humans. We literally evolved past monkey cause of our empathy and ability to form societies and care for the weak and old.
Also more on innovation, haven't we gotten the biggest case of it not being true with Hollywood runs cookie cutter movies and people eat it up? Majority of artists don't create for profit.
"Capitalism only monetizes those ideas that are profitable and those which do not hurt current vested interests. an idea or innovation that may be practical, helpful, or even life-saving will not gain traction in a capitalist market unless the result would be private profit."
"the irony of the patent system (privatization) without patent protection, a competitor can simply replicate an invention and undercut the inventor’s price — which necessarily includes all the time and expense of research and development — so the incentive to experiment and create is severely inhibited. But if innovators such as Glenn Curtiss cannot build on the progress of others without paying exorbitantly for the privilege, the incentive to continue to experiment and create is similarly inhibited.”
I think they did
I dont remember the specifics, but I’m pretty sure laws were passed where landlords could not evict people during the pandemic
too bad poor americans gonna get double d***ed down by the extra unemployment ending and the restrictions on evictions ending at the same time
a year from now there's gonna be so many more regular people out on the streets just straight homeless
i already see it since i work at a homeless shelter
more working class ppl coming in with no prior stays, no d*** habits, no mental problems.
good honest people completely let down by capitalism
Capitalism doesn't fuel innovation. People fuel innovation. Humans didn't get to where we are for just money, they wanted to live and improve lives. Sure it helped speed up s***, but capitalism has shown many times it doesn't fuel it. Look at streetwear culture and resell markets
I'm not suggesting that innovation relies entirely on capitalism but I think 'capitalism doesn't fuel innovation' as a blanket statement is fundamentally wrong. look at the rapid expansion in the tech world over the past 25 years or even the industrial revolution as examples. Sure, humans will create regardless, but if they aren't incentivized or rewarded for it they will become discouraged and stop. Just look at how many great minds that we didn't reward or celebrate until after their deaths killed themselves.
I'm not sure I exactly follow your streetwear point but being someone who works in the industry I can 100% tell you that once resell started to go crazy and streetwear began to become more mainstream corporations poured huge amounts of money into designers who previously did not have funding or opportunity and were able to create much more as a result, kinda proving my initial point.
this is like saying cuz you got robbed by some black dude at 3 am in the city, that 95% of black people are a******s.
yikes
not the same at all
you didn't say this to all the people in care caping for landlords
People itt weren't making a fake "percentage" off personal experiences
People itt weren't making a fake "percentage" off personal experiences
its the same concept
"oh im sure there a few bad landlords but based on my personal experience"
and get nuked by the many countries that hate us? No thanks
You know holding the constant fear of nuclear warfare over our heads is exactly how they get away with spending exorbitant amounts of money on the military, right?
There should at the very least be a freeze on evictions during the pandemic. It’s insane what the US does to its own citizens

there is currently I believe
The question is, what happens when the freeze is lifted

good honest people completely let down by capitalism
I mean I don’t disagree with you here, just a freeze on evictions isn’t going to help when everything is lifted
But I don’t think that constitutes the abolishment of landlords/private property
It shows a failure of our government to create laws that protect us more in situations like these
We pay an exorbitant amount of taxes every paycheck, basically stealing our money, they should at the very least ensure we are taken care of in times like these
i’m all for reform on current systems in place but abolishing landlords ain’t the wave for me
Kinda funny how people are always saying "no let's not make any extreme changes, I'm okay with reform though" and then nothing happens
there is currently I believe
The question is, what happens when the freeze is lifted
There isn’t, at least not at a national level. Hence the thread in OP
Idk about all that but people who go out of their way to not capitalize the beginning letter of each sentence should be evicted too.
Probably people on computers
its the same concept
"oh im sure there a few bad landlords but based on my personal experience"
Not really, because he made a generalization off an anecdote.
Everyone that has said "not all landlords are bad" wasnt using an anecdote as the base of a generalization.
Same way if a white man were to be like all blacks steal, a black person can respond with not all blacks steal

Well thing is without capitalism, we wouldn't have the potential for individuals to gain power and influence. It would just be a small community that gradually weeds people out who care for those who are willing to subscribe to group thought ideas in exchange for power and stability in their own lives.
Socialism in Europe is able to somewhat work because everyone there comes from similar backgrounds and have similar income levels. But when there are very wide class gaps, it is hard for most people to accept that they have to sacrifice their own happiness and wealth for someone they don't even know.
Capitalism best captures what human behavior really is. It even incentivizes helping others at times

redistribution of tax spending is deeply needed as well as a 90% marginal tax rate on anything over 20mil imo. throw a wealth tax in there too. actually INCREASE funding to the IRS for once instead of consistently DEFUNDING it year after year so that they have the resources to enforce the tax laws on the ultra wealthy.
IRS has straight up admitted they don't try and make sure ultra wealthy people pay what they should because it's too hard and they don't have the money so instead they go after smaller fish to try and make up the difference. disgusting
yikes

seems like you expected too much out of a situation and got exploited
but atleast the law protected you

I think more the capitalism we have here is the result of the perverted idea of manifest destiny and the american dream taking it's own form here vs the rest of the world
