I’m getting real “not all cops are bad people” vibes in this thread. Y’all love to personalize systemic issues. The system influences the individual. It is not imposed by one individual. It is a collection of attitudes and people who want to maintain their dominance without putting the effort in that decide how others live, literally.

I'm not so sure it's envy driven. I think people are genuinely frustrated but they just don't really understand how it really works. There are surely large conglomerates that are s***ty and predatory in their renting practices, but a large amount of rented property is owned by the common man just trying to make some more money to give their families a better life up until maybe recently my dad never made more than like 20k in a good year off his properties and I know so many more people that own property that are similar to him in their approach. Housing in America needs work, but villanizing property ownership is misguided.

it doesn't matter if they are the common man or not. being a landlord relies on you exploiting the needs of others

How will free housing help the economy?

In theory I don't think free rent in and of itself would harm the economy if it existed in a bubble, but if we lived in a world where everyone was relegated to free housing and didn't have potential for upward mobility by earning more I think we'd begin to see a lack of innovation and a lot of complacency

Yes... we are going to get nuked by countries because we don’t dump 70% of our national budget into military expenses

Why hasn’t that already happened then? And maybe you should consider why these countries feel the way they do if you’re so convinced that would be what would happen

Lmfaoo as if capitalism isn’t the epitome of lack of innovation. Capitalism is taking a good idea and mass producing it for extremely cheap by minimizing the quality and overpricing the f*** out of it. No innovation there. Look at every genre of music before it became mainstream. Tell me that there’s innovation as soon as executives get involved.

This argument that innovation is a byproduct of capitalism is a f***ing s*** narrative. I bet more people would be innovative if they had the time to be rather than working 40 hours a week to barely make rent

we absolutely can. military is very important and being the best or close to the best at it is extremely valuable but we undeniably spend too much. we can make significant cuts and still maintain our position. look into the f-35 project for example. we literally wasted trillions on jets that don't work.

If that’s the case, they would have bombed us forever ago. We influence the world more than others. We are the ones going into nations and doing the “bombing.” We are the global terrorists in most other nations eyes. If you’re concerned about that, then dumping more money into that isn’t really going to solve that fear now is it

They wouldn't bomb us because our military is still far stronger than theirs, a direct result of our spending.

And we are the global terrorists because other nations use propaganda to drive fear into their people to think we are the enemy like those nations wouldn't kill the majority of their population to be in our position

    Dumb argument

The innovation that first came up is because of capitalism. People want to get rich and that motivates them to be creative and do something new.

Mass production and commercialization does reduce quality but it also provides wider access to something you otherwise wouldn’t get.

In any other system, we wouldn’t get that creativity and most creatives wouldn’t feel encouraged to try for such low reward
