I said quite the opposite I understand why it exist and every story decision because it’s calculated to get the exact viral emotional response and programming this movie criticizes even in its after credits scene

No way home is calculating down to the final seconds and strange trailer in credits

And it’s fine it’s calculating but when a movie has a live studio audience you can’t be surprised when people point out the sign that says laugh now cry now clap now

All I’m saying fans of those movies aren’t less of a movie fan than someone who only watches prestige films. Some of the best directors are known because of their blockbusters like James Cameron.

Someone who is inspired by these popcorn movies could end up being a better film maker than someone who only watches indie films

I get your point, blockbusters have always been around so why should we disparage these movies anymore than the others?
Well its bc the studios aren't even f***ing trying anymore. These movies are so boring and predictable, they are bad cinema. It's a problem that came from the marvel blueprint, those movies are legitimately hard to watch. But not in a "I dont understand or they are trying too hard" way, but in a way that they treat the audience like they are f***ing dumb. There used to be more of an inbetween with blockbusters and the reason they were entertaining was because it felt like the protoganists may actually sacrifice or lose something i.e. the stakes felt real.

Now with a sequel coming out every 6 months for every f***ing superhero, its like watching a high budget CW tv show that they keep renewing for another season.

So the reason these movies deserve to be disparaged is because they are taking precedent in the industry. I'm not suggesting box office is an accurate judge of quality but just compare the top 5 box office movies of 1999 vs 2021.

I’m not gonna argue they’re quality cinema but you realize there’s a larger market of people who only look for movies to entertain. They don’t want anything else from their movies and that doesn’t make them less or dumber than anyone else. Maybe they need an escape from their own stressful life

You’re right that MCU has over saturated the CBM genre but the way they they built this universe it’s like every movie is marketed as a sequel to an ongoing story which makes movie goers continuing to watch them.

Sequels of popular franchises are almost always cash grabs but they do numbers. I can at least give MCU credit with their reign they’ve tried to diversify casts so that Asian, black, and women led movies are doing numbers so that hopefully in the future blockbusters can see it can be profitable

But do you see how mcu is partially a fear of grief . We used to be like “ aight trilogy “ or “ wow hope spider man 1 gets a sequel “ . When star wars Abrams was originally marketed they said “ there will be a new Star Wars every year until 2030 “

And that’s what they do with marvel there is no end goal it’s nostalgia and fan service every single year until we die

And there are people more mad we enjoyed the matrix than anything . I ain’t mad at anyone loving no way home I will point out things that didn’t work for me but I’m not going to say anyone is faking it or stupid or anything else . Opening day would be different maybe I would have that nostalgia to that high .
