Lmao, I was brought up in this early 2000s-early 2010s evangelical west coast fad that spread rapidly at the time. Think I met this guy’s dad when I was a little kid.
The emphasis is always to look very hip and keep it mostly PC, and then try and sell you on outlandish elements of Pentecostalism over time. It’s essentially a surviving child of this very particular early 20th century religious movement in America. Surprised it’s still around.

i gave it a second listen this morning and it went much better. the the 3 tracks you mentioned, really the 5 song run to start the album is pretty immaculate. i can recognize that there's a lot of quality after that, but idk i'm just lacking a full connection with it. maybe i need a third listen.
