Elijah Watts: The Answer to the fast-food era of music, A Superstar in the making

You might not be familiar with the name Elijah Watts but soon enough, this will be a household one at the very least. Having just turned 21 a month ago, Watts is gearing up to showcase his talents to the worldwide stage. Elijah is no stranger to the industry, having been inside of it since a young age. With rumored ties to Pharrell Williams & Tyler, The creator as well as a mindblowing label deal with Columbia, the mystery of Watts is vastly interesting.Being the second cousin of current young rapper Jaden Smith and nephew of the fresh prince himself Will Smith, these connections seemingly become clearer as to how they were obtained. Watts isn’t banking on his family name to holster himself into stardom but rather his infectious, at times experimental and heavily worked on pieces of music. Watts prides himself in creating timeless works of sonical art instead of what we have been accustomed to in the end of the decade beforehand. If music is looking for a savior, one might have been found with Elijah Watts.

Born in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles, California, Watts has always been fascinated with the idea of being the biggest star in a room. His parents had shared a bit of fame as well, his father Deion Watts being a musician in the 80s as well as his mother Jamie Watts being known as a fashion icon in the 90’s.Bouncing between living in Fairfax and Paris, France for a portion of his life, Watts had gotten a grasp of both cultures internally as well as externally. Elijah had become invested in music at the early age of 7, stating he had written his first song at 8. He doesn’t brag about his but rather laughs and ponders on why music had become his first love so easily. After taking musical lessons throughout elementary and middle school, Watts had turned into a multi-instrumental musical act. Taking up a modeling career for a few years in high school, Watts had gotten cut after a modeling show and fully devolved into making music. Watts had released a multitude of demo cuts on soundcloud before meeting with Columbia and signing a historically large record deal. His musical styles tween along the lines of funkish, rap and pop rock fused together beautifully.Inspired by the likes of John Frusciante, Gorillaz, Kanye West, The Neptunes and Daft Punk, Elijah is no stranger to trying to make music that's outside the box but can reach the masses with ease.

As Elijah spoke to us about his upbringing, he was working on a couple of cuts for his forthcoming debut album. Without revealing too much, Watts stated this record feels super inspired, he said “I’m not hit chasing, much rather chase a feeling and if it resonates with the people, it will go number 1 itself”. Watts did reveal that his project was being overlooked by established artist Tyler, The Creator. “He had heard some of my demo cuts back in 2018 and decided to work with me. Tyler is the big bro. He’s very blunt and honest, it's needed in an era full of yes men having artists craft less than stellar albums”. With his huge deal with powerhouse label Columbia records and seemingly unknown background, Watts understands the overwhelming hype for his first official LP. “I work well with pressure, they say you have all of your life to make your debut album and you can feel all the hard work of this record from the first listen”. Watts is the definition of a perfectionist and his skills will all be on display on his debut album, “Now’s The Time” coming out soon.

We finally know how all the artistry skipped Trey Smith.
