I think damn has the highest meta
not even sure because i havent been following rap for a long ass time up until i heard jay e's s*** leaked lol. i only pop in and out when my favorite artists drop music.
think the last time i was knee deep with following everything was like 2013
i just know there was a thread recently and rolling stones had a kendrick album and lauren hill as the highest rated albums when it comes to rap/hip-hop. laughable

RS change their rankings every few years, s*** doesn't matter tbh

Yea i hate how politicised these lists are now kendrick and lauyrn are just the safest possible picks in 2020
Music journalism is honestly dying.. sad but years of low quality have brought it to where we are.

the list was so random. i think it was kendrick, lauren (who was ranked highest), outkast, biggie, and someone else. i think it was public enemy actually
i dont think illmatic was even mentioned which is just idiotic. im a jay z guy and i can admit illmatic is the s*** and lives up the legendary hype around it.
having a chicks rap album ranked above all the all-time great music we've gotten is just agenda driven

Been like that for a minute tho. I stopped taking publications seriously in 2017 or 2018 when they announced that "women now officially make way better music than men" and every publication had the same boring top 5 like they're all controlled by the same ppl.

next thing you know cardi b, nicki minaj etc. are gonna start randomly appearing on these lists getting the nod and more praise over s*** that tupac, biggie, nas, jay etc. dropped
its insanity.

Yeah I'm sure they'll try to rebrand one of Nicki's albums as a classic sooner or later.

something about paving the way for women to put out well respected rap music or something. its never about the music
they'll give it a 9/10 and say "although the album itself isnt great, mrs nicki paved the way for women to rise up and challenge the largely male dominated rap scene"

It's some lame marketing from the same ppl who also control Hollywood. Same way they have been spamming lazy remakes of the same Superhero movies where the only difference is that now there's a female lead and the same shallow, one-dimensional "woman empowerment" edge. That s*** is bad for art but luckily it's a trend that will pass eventually, rn they're really running that s*** to the ground tho.
P.S. I'm all for feminism in art when it's completely genuine and done well, like the last Fiona album. Just not rocking with the manufactured s***/turning feminism into a gimmick for profit.

Anybody who needs the Oblivion99 remaster can hit my DMs as well
In my copy I've swapped Latonya's @fatbellybella cover mix with the OG @fatbellybella (just Jay, with the mercury in retrograde sample, better vocal take).
@Oblivion99 didn't you also use the earlier vocal take?
you do have the horse sample
Anyway I'd appreciate to hear just your version of fatbellybella @TweedDiadoras if you can hit my pms with that?
or is it the same as the v2 posted in the discord?

Nah I used the leak, I just added in the horse sample
I don't agree with pitchfork on a lot of scores
But if they aren't the #1 tastemakers in terms of music publications, who are?
It's hilarious how folks on ktt go so out of their way to s*** on P4k even when it's borderline delusional or just completely unwarranted
dont care about reviews really, mfs bring up metacritic and s*** when scores are so all over the place their isnt any consistency
get rich or die trying has a score in the low 70s - so does the documentary if i remember. GRODT was included on rolling stones' 500 greatest albums.
there are rap albums that arent even in the same league with 10+ higher scores.
Metacritic been ass. AOTY.org is the only site of semi-credibility doing work like that

Feel like this isn't talked about enough. Dilla x Jay is always perfection
"Every line of every verse of every song is a quotable"
Dilla + Jay > Just + Jay for me tbh
Imagine an Act 3 exclusively over unreleased Dilla
(who knows if Jay actually got those 1000 beats he claims to have tho)

just made an overdue yt playlist, these 5 are all we have right?

I think this is because of Instagram / Twitter / streaming - most people don’t need to or aren’t interested

True, it's all about word to mouth now.

pitchfork used to have mad influence on artists’ careers if they gave you a negative score nowadays with streaming and the internet in general you can find new music easily without music journalism
