Movie was powerful

Has a lot to say about relationships under duress and cold feet

I liked this a lot. One of the better romcoms in recent memory

And yeah Zendaya has never looked better than she did in this movie

To me it felt like the movie was commenting more on how much some people care about other people’s opinions on their own relationship and what would it take for you to break up with a partner, a friend, or a family member

Watched yesterday, really liked this

felt a bit conflicted on this...i love the concept, but a part of me had trouble buying it as the centerpiece of a conflict that would last that long and cause that much damage.

i liked the commentary on thought crime as well, but just kinda wish zendaya had some triumphant moment or something more than just feeling ashamed about herself for the rest of the runtime

Idk man a couple days before the wedding, you find out your partner almost committed a mass shooting just because she thought it would be cool. I feel like thats something that would cause a lot more damage than the movie depicted

I see Haim character as less of a character and more of a stand in or representation of cancel culture

i see what you mean, but it wasn't cause it was cool, it was cause she was an isolated bullied teenager. the second she made some friends, she realized the error of her ways, she only went on with the bit because it got her attention on tumblr. I would argue that any isolated teenager has had similar thoughts, and that shouldn't make them unlovable in the eyes of their partner, but that's me

It was more than just a thought tho. Charlie brings up the point that everyone probably had a similar thought before. But the difference is that Emma was planning on acting on that thought to the point she brought the gun to school and was razor close to doing it

While sure she ultimately didnt do it and was a lonely child, I feel like her planning the act is enough to make people look at you funny, especially if you didnt even go to therapy to process all that.

I think that's fair, but i still feel your mileage may vary in terms of how much that works as an inciting incident for thhhhhhaaaaattttt muuuuuuuccchhhh drama

I think it works reallllly well as a stand in for cold feet. Yea as we watch the movie we learn she absolutely made up for it and quite honestly it wasn’t that big of a deal, but love and the questions that can come up when questioning one’s love for another, I think can often times be opaque just like the incident in this movie. It’s quite the perfect fill in for what I would sum up as “I DONT KNOW HOW I AM SUPPOSED TO FEEL ABOUT THIS PERSON”
