I’m starting to think it’s not any deeper of a strategy than the chest thumping tbh. There was a great profile on Steven Miller, I think in Vanity Fair, where they talked about his laser focus on the optics of strength.

If I’m generous, my read is that they’re trying to reposition America as an iron fist leader both at home and abroad and throwing s*** at the wall to see what hits with the base. So far, all of it has, so we keep on trucking. To your point, I’d also be concerned that they’re stretching the military too thin, not to mention the risk of sending people to die in foreign wars in an election year.

But I have to say, the immediacy with which all evidence other than Trump’s narrative was discarded among the base when it came to the MN ICE officer shooting implies to me that the general public will somehow bend over backwards to justify it even as we clearly repeat the errors of not even 2 full decades ago
