They said they have a deal but these quotes largely indicate they just made good progress lol

Interested in what the Chinese readout will say. They approached this like a temperature check meeting so I’m confused on how a deal came to be without checking back with leadership first

    It happened pretty quickly tbh

The streets are saying it was the Art of the Deal.

    Why only 90 days?

Man signs deal to stop f***ing you in the mouth, settles for flicking you in the nuts everytime you make a purchase.

February 4: China responded with a 15% tariff on coal and liquified natural gas products, and 10% on crude oil, agricultural machinery and large-displacement cars. China also added PVH Corp. and Illumina to the Unreliable Entity List, launched an antitrust investigation into Google, and added export controls to some metals including tungsten. March 4: China retaliated by imposing a 15% tariff on chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton originating in the United States; and a 10% tariff on sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products originating in the United States, effective on March 10, 2025.

    Why only 90 days?

That + 30 percent is still significant

The factories stuff was never happening

  • May 12, 2025

Trump busted his load seemingly to no results aside from some marginal changes that seem to be worse for consumers. Not sure where he goes from here but I expect more distractions in the form of unnecessary EOs

The planning that goes into that takes years so any new factories being built i would guess were already lined up if there are any

This clearly happened because he was getting f***ed in the polls and in the media because the tariffs were unpopular

As someone predicted in here a few weeks ago, he has his big summit with Xi where he pretends like he had to play hardball and Art of the Deal him into giving over massive concessions…when in reality it’s literally just back to the status quo pre-tariffs

  • May 12, 2025

The tariff damage is already done. It doesn’t matter if he backs off 10%, 40%, or 80% reduction, the fact that these tariffs are being considered at all, the incompetence of the admin and his wishy-washy nature means businesses are already accounting for massively increased costs in the short-long term. Shipments have collapsed we’ll feel the effects shortly for a few months as businesses adapt or Trump crumbles under the pressure.

trump only goofed by trying to go too hard too fast, he probably could've got away with a tariff regime if he had done it gradually. historically speaking fascism is good for capitalism in crisis moments so I'm surprised their was even as much pushback as their was.
