I used the term crutch because people who take the deep dive into Christianity out of nowhere typically do it after a major negative moment in their lives. Death, divorce (ironic because it’s against that religion), addiction, etc. In Kanye’s case, the mental breakdown.

If people are super religious to begin with, sure, crutch wouldn’t be appropriate. But when people lean on it heavily in a moment of doubt after being casual Christians or not religious at all, I think calling it a crutch is fair
