“When I started shooting this Scorsese movie, I remember thinking, ‘What am I going to look like on that huge screen?’ And then I thought, ‘I’m going to look like me. And it’s going to be me up there, and all of the things that are flaws — that’s also part of me,’” he says.
“We’re all busted. All of us. The older you get, the more broken you are. That’s why people are drawn to the aesthetic of relic things — guitars that look like they’re 100 years old, and classic cars that still have the original paint. It’s why an old car is worth more if it’s got all the rust on it. I think there’s some sort of real beauty in all of those scars.”

@MartinScorsese congrats 🙏🏽
Could be a mistake but in this Variety article interviewing the Cannes chief he says this movie is 3 hrs 45 minutes (originally reported to be 3 hrs 20 minutes)
Don’t you think Scorsese is too much of a legend to compete at Cannes?
That’s very interesting because when Fellini won the Palme d’Or for “La Dolce Vita,” he said “I’m not coming back in competition,” and Marty won the Palme d’Or in 1976. So obviously one could say, he doesn’t have much to gain considering his prestigious status. Except one thing: the Palme d’Or. I think he should come in competition.
The movie is 3 hours and 45 minutes long, do you think the length could be an issue?
I don’t know what the final length is, but let’s say that for me it’s not an issue. All I know is that it’s only five minutes more than “Once Upon a Time in America.”
Hate to say it but I might have to wait for this to hit streaming lmaooo, im gonna be pissed missing parts of the movie to use the bathroom
Won’t this negatively affect its box office prospects?
In regardless tho

Oh no not the box office prospects
God damn I’m in
Can’t wait for nerds complain about the runtime and start making infographics of how to view the film as a miniseries.
3:54:00 is f***ing crazy. Can we not pretend it isn’t?
I loved Irishman in its entirety but like I’m sure there was a way for that movie to be shorter without losing anything meaningful

Yeah Irishman being that long was crazy cus I remember maybe 4 scenes from that film.
3:54 is f***ing wild lmaooo
This has to be the longest mainstream film since Return of the King right?
That’s nearly half an hour longer than Seven Samurai.

Scorsese going out on his own terms I don’t think box office has really been a concern for a min. Securing the budgets has been a worry but after that he’s been doing whatever he wants
This and his last film were streaming premiers with short theater runs. And Silence didn’t make much either. We’re talking Wolf of Wall Street as the last time we really had to look at his numbers
I mean that’s ridiculously long and it’ll get complaints but can’t really blame dude at this point in his career
The book wasn’t that long but it’s def something that coulda been miniseries length with the span it covers

I’m in either way, only reason I mentioned it is for studios there is a profit motive at the end of the day.
I’m just enjoying whatever we get while he’s still around
I'm getting more hyped for this the more that I think about it. I can see this being on those "top 10 of the decade" list in 7 yrs. I have a great feeling about this one.

Opening tracking shot
CGI DeNiro curb stomp
And then just… the third act?
Really curious to see how the film paints the FBI and Hoover (since the book is nonfiction it got to go in depth on the legacy of both beyond the timeline of the central events, and the author clearly held Hoover in much contempt at the very least).
