i would just like to see better Indigenous representation in mainstream movies. Things produced by and written by Indigenous peoples who are telling their story from a point of resilience, resistance, and thriving, because these stories exist and need to be heard. the "dead *ndian" trope is tiresome.
Again, i hope this film proves to be not that. and sounds like yall are saying Scorsese did spend some time with the people of the Nation, so i hope im pleasantly surprised.
You had Prey last year though I frankly found it to be a pretty boring film and it’s themes of resilience, resistance and strength (while nice to see for an indigenous woman) were extremely generic and boring by any storytelling measure.
I like to see stories do something new visually or technically or experiment. Simply copy pasting one of the most stale forms of “uplifting story about overcoming conflict” and just making it one about people of color is pretty boring. Maybe the kids need it but I’m good on that. I think a film like The Revenant got to experiment visually and technically and make a pretty resonant revenge story while also humanizing the indigenous though.

Finally someone else that didn't like Prey

I'm also Canadian
was the only white boy that would hang out on the rez for a big chunk of my youth
you see much North Of 60 growing up? Pretty classic as well
Pretty funny that George Harrison of all people financed Powwow Highway with his Beatles money but fitting considering he was also the one that caused a gargantuan shift in perception of India in western culture.

Yeah we was pretty deep out there. It was for a basketball tournament in Toronto. We was like 18-19 and found out y’all drinking age is younger than ours
wild that the cinematographer for this is the same as Barbie
wonder how he handled that transition

Probably more to do with how he handled Barbie as a film. He’s pretty used to these style of films by now

i havnt seen that, but i'll definitely check it out. it looks super interesting upon google search! Honestly, most of my knowledge of Indigenous related things in Canada has been learned in my adulthood - imo grade school curriculums in our country completely completely drop the ball on teaching the truth of the history of Canada, and even atrocities Canada has committed in modern to present times. F*** Canadas nice guy reputation lol, s***s f***ed.

This why it's the artists job to show the truth of society when the government won't
school didn't teach me much about first nations history either (besides elementary school tribal dances at assembly) but those movies definitely did. Sent me down a crazy rabbit hole last week.
