i think you're reading that quote wrong, of course that Scorsese wouldn't do anything inauthentic, but getting actual input from the people involved will definitely change something for the better imo

Yeah maybe. Just hearing the movie changed “almost entirely” isn’t something I’d expect to see attached to a Scorsese film.
