I for the most part forgot what was that about which kinda shows how 'strong' of a theory it was. but basically bob dylan blew up quickly off of social commentary, because of it the activist youth thought hes gonna be all that but he didnt want it and wanted to be an artist first. so rather than pursuing activism and whatever he turned to musical exploration via folk and country music, getting together with the Band and doing other artist arcs that dont have anything to do with peoples' expectations of him as a 'figure' in broader sense
and so my theory was that trajectory-wise it echoes Kendricks career in the way people perceive artists/any popular figures and put them onto a crazy pedestal and those artists reacting accordingly
Haven't dived into Dylan's work or story too much yet so this is really interesting, thank you
Exactly why I hate this Album. This Album took the Hero I saw in Kendrick away. Now he is just another dude but that was i loved in him in the first in place in Section 80s and OD but this album stylistically is just so pretentious I cant vibe with it.
This why he made Savior, nigga said Kendrick my hero

try reading up on his 'exile' to Woodstock after he released john wesley harding (iirc), like late 60s once he gets married. I read about it from a small book about one of his albums but its p much impossible to find these days and I got it randomly. I think any article or wiki page about that period should give a good enough overview. but def enjoy music without that in mind
As much as i dislike Mr Morale, I think message wise it makes perfect sense
Kendrick can make revolutionary music but he’s simply just delivering a message and he’s ultimately relating his own struggles to the revolutionary message at hand. But end of the day, he’s a musician. He’s not a real revolutionary who will go into the streets and die for you. The arc of Mr Morale is him saying that he can’t be this consistent boxed in ideal that his delusional fans have made him out to be. He’s a kid from Compton that beat the statistics, he’s not your savior.

Posts like this is why im in favor of state mandated rounds of getting fresh air
When you realise that these guys don’t give a f*** about people and just about winning arguments and being ‘right’ you’re gonna see that there is no use in arguing with people like op

Hip hop is a “black” American art form that’s always rejected and placed at the bottom of the totem pole yet it sparks convos like this. It’s funny. Especially when you consider a lot of the people that are the loudest with their opinions are only invested out of curiosity, this includes other “black” people apart of the diaspora
Even if niggas don’t change the world with rap I’d say the genre has made an impact that most people wouldn’t have predicted
I love it lol
Ktt2 in the “lengthy post era”
Thoughtful posts getting hate for just being long
When confronted with his own inevitable failure as one of those great men, he instead went to the other extreme and distanced himself from being concerned with the world's problems altogether and embraced a highly individualistic mindset in just worrying about “building his own world” instead, but those are of course not the only choices.
Are you trying to tell him how he should've felt/reacted? I'm sure he knows there's a vast middle ground too

All I said was we in the lengthy post era, shawty
he’s a brilliant writer but it feels like after this album, he should move on from music
i know it’s controversial but i don’t see how an album like this will find radio / streaming success, will tour
i feel like him and kanye have been struggling trying to fit into the mainstream while still giving these big budget « high art » pieces.
feels like kanye is a little better at the mainstream and kendrick is a little better with committing to his ideas (we literally saw donda become everything BUT an album about his moms and grief) but they’re both at a point where their kinda done with the music industry.
like at this point i’d rather see kendrick write plays lmaooo i know ppl are gonna get on my ass but i feel like him directing acting and writing would be so cool.
family ties and the heart made it seem like his heart was really in rappin but the album…
idk mane. anyone saying i should listen again, i never thought i’d see the day where i’d feel forced to listen to a kendrick album. but here we are and i can’t give you a single song that i’d enjoy casually, and can only give you one song i really enjoy artistically
i’m glad he’s getting therapy tho and i hope it speaks to people
well turns out i was a f***ing meathead a******
Bro the only times ur in my notifs are 6+ month old posts where u go on some rant abt science and religion lmao let it go brother

Well if he's aware of that middle ground he didn't express that in his album
