    Thanks bro

Everybody contributing too in a way u dont often see on here like that these days

    Except a couple of weirdos

with all of its shortcomings and trolling (which to me is par for the course and I dont really know these posters like that anyway) this site to me is the best place on the internet to traditionally discuss 'music and how it makes you feel' with just enough self-awareness and insight brought from multiple perspectives

I really should've made that thread about Kendrick going through Bob Dylan's arc but its all good

a lot of the big rappers were hitting a creative slump before covid but it seems like covid really took a toll on them creatively ngl

thé big three is def kanye kendrick and drake idk why ppl made it seem like it was cole other then he’s young

with that being said, their records were massively disappointing for me as long time fans of them

it feels like at this point the artists i grew up on are kinda washed at this point and the future is tyler and hopefully some new niggas

I don't think u really understand what the big 3 is how it came to be. It's an anomaly that happened for one generations top 5 and it's locked to one generation and one generation only. None of them can just be replaced

You’re attributing too much mythology to the meaning

That doesn't align with how the term has been used though. It wasn't used until around 2016-17 after Big Sean failed to live up to expectations. It was used explicitly towards the top 5 of the blog era, who kept putting up huge numbers. It was never meant to be used to span generations. Cause of that was the case, then u could say the same for Wayne and Jay Z also being more popular. So trying to replace Cole in the "big 3" is like trying to rewrite history completely and also doesn't make sense

Just want to throw out there that progress is a process. Kendrick is on an individualistic/selfish tip right now in response to his experiences since DAMN (wherein he began to wrestle with his own futility) and what we get on Mr. Morale is a snapshot, not a permanent ethos. Often people react to the positions of their previous selves in an aggressive manner without taking into account a middle ground, but that point is often reached with experience.

No I'm not lmao. I was actually outside when all these niggas came out. I remember the top 5 talks when big sean and wale were in with drake Kendrick and cole. The big 3 is a very recent thing and definitely doesn't apply how you're trying to make it apply

I understand what you’re saying an honestly I agree.

I’m not sure how old you are but I’m 28 and at the time when Drake and J. Cole were coming up and it was inevitable they were going to be big and torchbearers of sorts for this generation of rap it was a big deal. And the Kendrick came shortly thereafter with just as much hype and all 3 of them delivered and fell into their respective lanes.

They’re certainly the big 3 of their generation. But people have co-opted the term to just 3 biggest rappers in general.

Yeah I'm 28 as well. And yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to convey. Co-opting the term has seem to lead to some confusion which leads to @AmoryBlain questioning why Cole was in it

Yeah I’m right there with you. To me Cole, Kendrick, and Drake will always be who I think of when it’s referenced.

but Ye has been around long before them all of those dudes. he influenced all of them so it’s weird to put them in that same category which refers to a specific generation of rap talent

like Beyoncé and SZA could both drop rnb albums this year and I’m sure they’d do similar numbers tbh but I still wouldn’t put them in the same category of rnb queens or nothing like that, Bey has put in too much work. same with Ye

Not to mention a lot of these songs were made or at least started a couple years ago.

He could be in a completely different head space right now

Definitely wasn’t a meme that started in 2015

This is when the top 3 talks started & it was during the blog era
