I just generally do not take artists seriously anymore lmao, can you imagine the pampered life they live compared to us. Whoever can create something that SOUNDS authentic and good wins.
DMX strikes me as a guy who was already rough around the edges and had to channel that into music. I was reading his come up story and it's part of why most labels were anxious about signing him at first.
