drake didn’t need to completely dilute everything great about his music to keep selling well. he sold well while also making quality music and consistently (more or less) indisputably great albums. if i ask “what happened to that” the stan’s say “they still quality ” like alright bruh. glad you still enjoy em i guess

It's an interesting point because Take Care and NWTS had a great balance of substance and commercial appeal

This is the one instance where I will use charts. Because this is just factually incorrect lol

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Kid,_M.A.A.D_City#Year-end_charts

An album from 12 years ago ended up at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 and No. 12 in R&B/Hip-Hop last year. People are very clearly still listening to that album. In order for an album to be considered a classic, one of if not the most important thing it has to be...is replayable.

Are you f***in stupid my nigga?

So far you’ve brought up charts, and critic reviews itt but drake stan’s are the bad ones amirite

damn facts i almost forgot about dnd. that track goes crazy.

Like I don't hate drake I just see glimpses of the greatness often then he says "you know what forget it "

You fans want him to have GOAT status that's why. Substance transends time. I've been listening to Drake since 2008.
I'm 38, and this man child is 37. I've lived a little life. F*** I'm posed to do with "girls like girls where I'm from"
Music is straight if it's just fun entertainment, but that don't get you GOAT status. Grow nigga, EVOLVE. Had something real mixed in with that s***.
He has been rapping about b****es and status forever. This nigga lives a shallow existence. Clubs, thots, and a bunch of yes-men. His music reflects that. Only time he has anything to say is in response, or if he's talking bout the people round him.

He is the goat the f*** you talking about

You’re right but he’s still the biggest rapper. So it does not feel right to give him s*** for it. It’s been his goal since views I think. He’s dropped every year since.

I get where you coming from. Me personally, I don't mind the same s*** if it is consistently entertaining or whatever it is I look for in that particular artist. If it's not something I can personally relate to, I can still find it interesting or even eye opening, so it's not an issue from my end

it was entertaining at a point but now it just feels somewhere between TMZ and an insecure alcoholic mans obsession with fame

    same as Ye ironically

But they don't wanna hear that. Meanwhile, GKMC/DAMN are still putting up numbers because enough people are still listening. Even TPAB performed better commercially because it's a great album just musically and was well out together and that's the "woke" Kendrick album btw. MMATBS missed the mark and it's okay to admit that.

They’ll just argue that it’s so deep it was beyond the comprehension of everyone but a select few

    Reality is

If it sounds good it’s good and will be replayed

If it’s not, people won’t care

see this is the problem with you sales obsessed niggas and why you can’t speak to us MUSIC obsessed niggas. you’re talking to me in a simpleton ass language that i don’t give a f*** about and y’all still do it regardless of how many times we say it. to say im right but to say it don’t “feel right” is peak stan energy. just admit drake don’t do it like he used to, and maybe he’ll drop something with the energy of used to again, that or he’ll actually try to innovate on what he does

he’s the “biggest rapper” bro does it look like i care? that’s not why i listened to him when i was a jit. vanilla ice was one of the biggest rappers too for a time. or any other random nigga that was mainstream big. im still not bumping they s*** and the history books don’t be discussin em w any importance

But that's the thing with making music with a message. Kendrick has done that time and time again and executed it well. He did so with Section.80, GKMC and TPAB. He only ever really missed the mark with MMATBS so people acting like we were able to love his other albums but are somehow choosing to hate on MMATBS lose me.

Everyone was excited for Kendrick's return. We all wanted to love MMATBS lol.

Exactly. He may have been saying a lot of s*** on MMBS but corny ass hooks like "I love when you count me out, I love when you count me outttttt" just are not sonically pleasing irregardless the content of what he's singing about

Everything Drake is rapping/singing about now is s*** he rapped/sang about then. The only difference is that back then, he was younger and so it felt more potent hearing someone that young make music about that stuff. He's older now and you're tired of hearing what he has to say because you feel he should be living a different life at his age but that's not a standard you have for other artists who are even older than Drake.

You can't make music with substance that sounds ass, can't just have good sounding music that lacks substance. Sounds like both artists have something to improve on.

Ye has lost the plot completely Fr. I don't think Drake will ever reach that level. He's self aware enough to know when he's the problem, unlike ye who's forever a victim
