Music is entertainment before it's anything else. It has to serve that basic function before anything else and it's okay if it only entertains. Yes, it can also have a message and do more than just entertain but that's not something that's not some requirement necessarily.

Same way a movie can say more than just entertain but it usually has to be presented in an entertaining vessel to relay that message.

sometimes it does, sometimes it happens on a whim! anyone who uses the frequency someone puts out music as some sort of serious criticism has had their expectations warped by streaming or has a very limited understanding of what it takes to make music

No, music is made to entertain an audience. Even if that audience is only yourself. It can also be art but it's art that has to entertain so the baseline is that it has to be entertaining and that cuts across any kind of music being made.

quality of the album aside (because you and i will never come to an agreement respectfully and it's not worth arguing), creativity is not some tool that you have access to all the time. kendrick came out with those back-to-back albums within that timeframe because he was young and hungry. post 2017/2018, i can understand him needing to take a break and retreat after having his most successful commercial era...and on top of that he had 2 kids with his wife!

lets be honest: we don't need to see somebody in the spotlight constantly to know that they're cooking. and we as the audience shouldn't be entitled

You’re an idiot. Music is someone expressing themselves in audio-visual format. It doesn’t have to “entertain” anyone in order for it to be considered music. Art isn’t “meant” to do anything. It’s simply expression.

Kendrick lives with his children . This isn't a diss to Drake me saying this lol. Living with kids plural and your wife not everyone has time to drop a yearly album or go at their perceived opps

S*** Ye doing way too much cost him his marriage but he still a great dad but that man was not sleeping properly throughout the entire past 5 years since having kids. Having kids is a lot of sleep deprivation. Combine that with their artist schedule you need time to unplug

Kendrick and many rappers who value their mental health aren't going to strip clubs at age 31 and doing a bunch of extra s*** nonstop they are no longer addicted to the lifestyle

They found love. Drake chases for the love through the accolades but deep down inside he wants a wife. Subbing some Niggas and f***ing random women your whole life won't make you happy.

I say this as someone who enjoys future music lol but Future knows the lifestyle painful at times you feel it in his music in a more poetic way than Drake for me
