As a 28yr old man, unless it is my nieces and nephews, or I was an agent of some sort, there is ZERO reason for me to communicate with a 14yr old on a friendship basis.

That's more of a critique of the industry though. Responsible parents are shunned away because they are wary of adults talking to their kids
