    Smartest J Cole fan

"I wonder, will my friends make it past the pearly gates, so we could kick it but based on what their sins say (sensei), probably not"

He's making a pun using “kick it” and “sins say/sensei”.

    Again, nothing too crazy.

He's not trying to be too deep with this one. But after your done appreciating the wordplay, you might relate this to yourself or someone you know that's in the streets.

Then you realize niggas are definitely not going to heaven with some of the crimes they committed.

If Cole's fake deep, creatively lacking, simpleton music is a reflection of himself and his intellect, it's safe to say the trans bars didn't come from a place of ill will; he genuinely thought they were hard despite being completely tone-deaf 💀

Which is exactly what I’m saying. “You can identify as a man, but I’ll only view you as a woman!”

Trans women are women. We can agree to disagree but it’s just a tone-deaf bar

You keep saying that and that is not what he’s saying

He’s saying that a trans man who was born as a woman still has a p**** and still has periods. It’s a neutral statement of scientific fact purely used for comparison sake no matter how sensitive you want to be about it. He is taking that and comparing it to rappers who identify as tough guys but are still p****.

Also all that tone def talk is just self righteous bs. Liberals always assume their perspective is the correct one and try to force their reality on every one else. It’s clear he ain’t say anything blatantly harmful to the community so this is obviously fake outrage, liberal entitlement, internet feeding on drama, media being the media, and casuals showing a general lack of understanding of how rap lyrics work per usual

    Cole is a bigot argument

If you said it was a racial double standard I would agree.

Because we all know no white rapper can say n****er for artistic purposes and it not be a career ended for them.

Now please, hold yo' L (Joel) like you guardin' Philly's young center
Quick to leave a chick curved
It's only one of me, but bet it's like six hers (76ers)

Posted this one before but the few first lines is referencing the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast by Gillie and Wallo

The last couple of lines is actually wordplay involving Philadelphia 76ers MVP Joel Embiid.

I don't know if you watch basketball but Cole purposely uses "cripple" in the "never will my ability cripple" line because Joel Embiid is injury prone. In other words, he gets injured alot and is currently dealing with knee issues.

Let's get rid of the big 3. It's the big 4 now

    Lesbian - Drake
    Gay - Kendrick
    Bisexual - Tyler
    Trans - J Cole

Calling Embiid a young center kinda crazy though

Hahaha, so now that the dust has settled, do people still think the Cole verse did meaningful damage? I don’t think it was meant to, but man what a weird strategy to go after Kendrick’s disco especially for Cole specifically. S*** is still baffling to me.

"Beneath his chosen identity, there is still a p****, period"

Notice how he says "period" at the end to accentuate his point while continuing the "pussy" wordplay.

This is a double entendre. Jermaine can be very clever with these bars.

    fun guy

people itt who have never spoken to a trans person in their lives wanna be the judges of what is and isnt taken as transphobic

Exactly. I’m not saying to agree with me. It ain’t my place to judge anyone. I have my beliefs and support the trans community.

All I’m saying is that can you at least understand why some might take it as a transphobic bar

But reading comprehension on this site ain’t good as you can tell lol

I honestly listened to a lot of his early s*** and his sound completely different before he changed his name to JPEG. I very rarely even go back to anything before Veteran

Yeah I only found him when he put out veteran but when i heard that ODB sample song I knew I was hearing something crazy. (Even though I dont think he produced that song but he still had the ear to choose it and rap on it) Ive never listened to anything pre veteran. What was his name before jpeg? I didnt know he had another alias

wtf I just said these lines are not deep. This is also not a deep explanation. It's just simple and effective.

Not everything needs to be deep with Cole. Sometimes you just want to make a clever rhyme or say some funny s***.

    Same s*** applies to Kanye.

If you're a fan of his he has a lot of good s***. 2nd Amendment is more abrasive but has a bunch of good songs. Darkskin Manson probably my favorite early project. He does covers of a Chief Keef song and that one song Coco I really like

Communist Slow Jams is how I found him cause I was in college trying to find communist rap
