Being an art critic will always be the lamest and weirdest job on earth to me, regardless if I agree with them or not. Like if you can’t make something on the artists level, wtf do you know about the art? Clearly there is a knowledge gap between the two parties. They’re no different than any random just sharing their opinion on something subjective.

Their opinion is only as useful as other people at their skill level, yes. It’s not that people shouldn’t be allowed to have an opinion, but should their opinion be valued? If they’re not as knowledgeable as the artist, then no. If you can’t do the task, you don’t understand the task. Is a random person having a math opinion the same value as someone who studied it and wrote papers on it for 30 years? You’re implying it is, when it isnt.
