Cole spent the first 5 years of his career proclaiming himself the next Nas, the actual next Nas showed up and made everything he put out look like the 2nd rate s*** it was while he couldnt even keep up with mac miller

he spent the back half of the 2010s and early 2020s dropping nothing but decent albums, but he went on a feature run where he shined against rap titans like moneybagg yo and cozz and somehow convinced people that hes actually an all time rapper purely because they like the idea of the rappers rapper who treats this like a competitive sport or whatever but is also “conscious” (hello noname) when in reality hes closer to asap rocky than drake/kendrick/any all timer
