Shoulda been used for cutaway updating you on the war at most, shutting the matrix down was disgusting
And also sidelining ppl like morpheus for characters like the kid and the general was inexusable
yoooo i got that feeling too
nigga Morpheus went from one of the key figures in the first two movies to essentially being a civilian
Them rushing to wrap up the matrix stuff at beginning led to such an undeserved escape from limbo for neo
Merovingian asks for the oracles eyes like damn this is going interesting places, then trinity's just like "nope" and draws guns, and suddenly news freed

that Trinity scene was lowkey hard though
it does kinda cheapen everything they did to get there though, esp since she literally gets clapped later in the movie
they could’ve ran a little subplot with that
wonder how the dynamic would’ve played between Smith and Trinity + friends hunting after the Oracle

Imagine them having to sneak around the matrix with smith's everywhere
Damn so many sick possibilities we coulda gotten a reloaded quality classic
That said I don't hate on it AS MUCH these days cuz if I'm just comparing it to other action movies ans not against the matrix movies it still has charm and crazy effects
I just hate that it coulda been so much more, and I think alot of ppl thought that. I know my theater was quiet as he'll when it ended

yeah i feel like The Matrix as a whole just embodies an aesthetic and a world that can’t be recaptured in other films, they just don’t have the it factor in spite of the flaws
what did you think of the final fight and the ending of Revolutions in general? was it satisfying?

Smith's unhinged ranting carried it. My thing is it kinda felt lesser after seeing him take on a smith army in reloaded. Couple that with the fact it doesn't seem like neo was even trying to BEAT him made it seem like it was just there cuz it was the end of the movie
I liked the machines hacking into smith through neo but I remember feeling like so much that reloaded set up went unanswered at the end of revolutions, felt like that oracle "I believed" was a slap in the face
Was expecting something more radical, and an explanation of stuff like why tf neo can use powers in real world besides "he's the one!" And all that stuff about there having been hundreds of "the one" in the past ect
What about you? What was your initial thoughts on first watch and have they changed much on most recent rewatch?

yeah to differentiate the Smith that Neo ends up fighting, i think that’s where they bring in all that flying and large amounts of clones, i didn’t think of the fight as being sort of tacked on towards the end until you pointed it out, but it definitely does make sense in a way since Neo is sent on a suicide mission to get converted by Smith and then overloaded by the machines
Neo being able to use his powers in the real world didn’t make sense to me on my rewatch either, i think those scenes where he’s able to do that also fuel that whole Matrix within A Matrix fan theory that floats around sometimes albeit iirc the Wachowskis came out themselves and said that it wasn’t true
i don’t think there’s really a plausible explanation for it
the previous Ones kind of get reduced to a homogenous group of people who made the same choice (ya know, preserve Zion but reboot the Matrix) and we unfortunately never exactly learn why they all made the same choice outside of it just being the more “morally” sound one, they just kinda get reduced to a plot device that makes Neo’s choice to save Trinity more impactful in a sense, and i do think it works in a way due to Neo being seemingly more anomalous than previous iterations of The One (I mean The Architect himself even says that he was quicker to catch onto his bullshit than the other ones were, lol) i think there’s a lot of expanding they could’ve done with that s*** as you said
my initial thoughts on the rewatch was i definitely understood why people felt like The Matrix was the best one out of the entire series, it was perfectly balanced with the philosophy, action, the stakes, overall it was very well placed and brilliantly built up from the beginning to end, it was a very novel introduction to the world, Reloaded was done decently but showed some flaws obviously with the philo dumping from The Architect and some sloppy CGI, but it was overall done well. Revolutions was the gravest offender of them all with the pacing, complete loss and incoherence of the plot etc. it seems like they just didn’t really know how to tie up the loose ends of the story up in a satisfying way so they just wrapped it up
definitely have a lot of love for the movies to this day though, there was a lot of religious symbolism that i connected and understood better on my rewatches that i’ll launch into later
there was a lot of Christian, Buddhist and Hindu themes, i mean hell Revolutions concludes with a Sanskrit hymn
dabbling with some of the books that inspired The Matrix like Baudrillard’s Simulacra was an eye opener too

Agreed
And the animatrix stories showed that the possibilities for matrix stories are endless and don't even have to be "savior rescues humanity from the machines" hopefully some day the right mind comes around and realizes the potential it has
