Once you’re around for a decade you stop competing with new artists. Everyone has their generation. Jay z was still around but no one was comparing him to Ye Wayne and TI it was a new generation under him. Same thing here
If Ye kept his output consistent in both timing and quality he could’ve bypassed this. But once he took a break he became retirement Jay Z.
There are no projects by Kendrick Drake or Cole in the 10s that are as bad as JIK and ye.

I was just talking about you calling him someone who comes back every few years, when he's been pretty active throughout his career. I think that 2013-16 break is overblown.About quality, I disagree about your opinions on his albums and have no interest in challenging those. But if quality really was a determinant, J Cole really wouldn't be counted either, he makes some of the most boring slop possible.
That break was at a crucial time. If Ye dropped something during that run of FHD IYRT and TPAB then the conversation could’ve been different and he could’ve still been seen as competition. But he left and the game went on without him. By the time he came back, he was mostly releasing mumble demo music, riding waves, and just trying to be overly sexual on trap beats.
I don’t think people realize how bad taking a break can actually be lol. We saw it with Kendrick too. It’s not just the break, most artists are never the same after a break

~2.5 years is not a break man. It's like a month more than the time between gkmc and tpab.

Yeah and once Ye started doing mumble music people stopped putting him in “rapper” conversation anyway. The music stayed quality but there’s something to be said here for him falling off miserably as a rapper, losing control of his flow and voice which were once very good. He only just got it back in the 20s with Donda and Vultures. From 2016 to 2020 it seemed like the medication completely ended his ability to record vocals properly

Ghost town outlasted that whole album. The only thing people remember from that is the lil pump diss and let’s be real, most people could’ve predicted he wouldn’t last
