And my thing is, with there being a clear understanding that Honestly Nevermind wasn’t the type of album that was ever going to do huge numbers, why isn’t that same thinking process extended to Mr. Morale? That sound like an album someone fixated on numbers makes?

I really dont care to dig deep on this stuff with that many people in a music video I honestly dont think Kendrick did a background check on all of them nor do I think its necessary.
I see the hypocrisy while also Baka is closer to Drake and those embassy parties / allusions to Diddy make things messy. Both humans are complex and I am not going to surveil every black person

Y’all think if Kendrick made a 20+ song album with Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Giveon, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Future (x2), Young Thug, Yebba, 21 Savage, Project Pat, Tems, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Kid Cudi that it wouldn’t sell more than a super conceptual therapy album?

Her Loss is a top 5 most streamed first week ever. I think you could say it did what it was supposed to. Also Mr Morale and HNVM had way different release strategies. HNVM was a surprise album that only got announced hours before it came out. Mr Morale was announced over a month in advance. Surprise albums will always sell less than albums that have been announced way ahead of time

It would sell better for sure. I just don’t get the narrative that Mr Morale wasn’t supposed to sell well cause it’s a “conceptual album” when songs like Silent Hill and Die Hard exist on it lol. Those songs were clearly made to sound like hits
