We need to have a conversation about how J Cole and Kendrick Lamar (Kanye in a sense too) was able to not only bring “conscious” hip hop into the mainstream (something that has been done before) but also built up a formula that helped sustain it for a prolong amount of time.

This might be the longest stretch in which two of the top three biggest acts have been “conscious” rappers.

I’m putting conscious in quotes to be more accurate but yo know what I mean.
