The underreported part of this is how Kendrick is framing this all in a born again Christian evangelical Boy Scout mission. He is the rap “High Sparrow”. that’s why so much of what he’s doing is so annoying to me. It’s this insular obsession. It’s this constant preening and projection of disapproval as if they claim that Drake is subject to their whims only while ignoring other literal artists who are engaged in violence, promotion of degeneracy in d**** and p***, celebrating ignorance, hiding and bothering numerous children, and a litany of other offenses against his proclaimed moral rectitude that should be on his radar apparently.

Y’all don’t think it’s weird how people legitimately still want Drake to do what they want him to do in order to be redeemed in their eyes in a way that you’ve never seen for any other artist? It’s like they know he’s capable of something and they want him to still prove himself. If this were any other artist they would leave him dead and ignore him, but it’s like they need him to be validated to prove something to themselves and their criticism.

If you peep some of his references, including Elohim and his previous songs, he’s clearly on this like Nation of Islam reference/religiously tinged influence tip. Even some of his previous songs he’s talking about biblical references of Jesus and faith. He’s a very religious person and I think part of it has to do with something he did to get initiated into his gang in his youth, but that’s a different story.
