I see a lot of people praising Kendrick for the “chess move” of dropping MtG right after Family Matters, and while they’re not wrong, i feel like they overrate family matters in the process.

My main problem is that the big reveals on the song feel like when i was younger, and was talking to this latina girl. She’d always be starting fights, and I’d always try to argue back by over exaggerating s*** she did, in an awkward way because i was clearly twisting something to win an argument.

I had to use Genius to follow along with all the bars, which i usually don’t have to do. I guess i always miss a few bars, and when i repeatedly listen to a song I’ll catch something new, but i found the rapping on the 2nd beat hard to follow.
