Yeah it was one of my first hip hop shows ever, it was in 2012. I was so excited, but by the end of the show they were throwing tomatoes and garbage on stage because he came late and barely performed. I remember him doing his remix of The Motto vividly

And yeah he became more socially conscious like with the Guantanamo stuff and Zimmerman trial. And had issues with his travel documents and passports which delayed him to get back to the states etc

Idk why but that makes me laugh. How tf you forget how to make beats when that's half how you propelled yourself after FNL. Using TDE non the less.

I honestly don't give a f*** what Drake does or don't
Just saying that there's a reason why some people view him like that, because the type of s*** he chooses to put out also waters down the genre when he can try to push it forward by taking creative risks (as a rap artist not a as a singer)
But I understand that he has to protect his brand and the machine that keeps bringing in money
And there's also a reason why people view someone like Kendrick the way they do, because he's the opposite of Drake and represents creativity and risk taking as an artist and not someone who is trying to chase hits all the time when he has the talent to easily do so
At the end of the day both are great at what they do, you can't please everybody

He's been too focused on rapping. That's why he is the most improved out of the Big 3 and why he's on top rn. If he was focusing on producing he wouldn't be in the position he is in. At least Cole is a producer in the first place.. I bet Lrake and Midrick never even made a 4 bar loop in FL Studio before and they have the nerve to call themselves 'musicians'

But that's what I'm saying man he could've been Dre or Kanye with bars. I genuinely LOVED his beats and was always excited to see Prod. J Cole to pop up on HotNewHipHop or Atrilli and s***.

It's a valid direction he took and I respect it but MAN it could've been both I think.

I feel you. But it's really hard to do both at a very high level unless you have help. Ye and Dre have a lot of people writing for them which gives them time to focus on producung.. Cole does the writing himself. If Cole had writers I'm sure he could allocate more time to both crafts.

That's probably fr what's taking the Fall Off so long while everyone has jokes. I'm not naive enough to think it's gonna be entirely J Cole produced but if it's his Black Album moment he's gonna want to come with some beats too and remind people he should be looked at like that in retrospect.
