He's not centering a trans issue around himself. He made a decision for himself that aligns with trans issues.

Song literally ends with him saying he chooses his happiness and family over religion don't see how you can be confused about that

But 2words studies flows man he knows everything!!! Hip hop historian dweeb

While you have a good point… have you ever considered Some of you really think that an album having a message/being a concept album automatically means it's good and everyone has to like it. Nope. You still have to deliver musically. Kendrick landed the mark on GKMC/TPAB but he missed the mark on MMATBS and that's okay. I bet he lands the mark next time.

You are f***ng with me damn u

MMATBS is TRASH. Doesn't matter that it was a concept album. It was executed terribly. That's why it's a miss.

If it was therapeutic for the artist to make and no one put a gun to my head to buy it or listen I’m glad they made it

Their album connecting with me is irrelevant the world doesn’t revolve around me or you

I feel same about hnvm which I enjoyed but I could see some calling it trash

The song is “fine” yea but I don’t think it’s above criticism

It leaves so many questions open in the lyrics that it’s natural to debate it

What exactly does it leave into question

    After S80 & GKMC

I can’t blame someone for believing Kendrick discography is hard to get through

Not cause the musics bad, it just gets more dense from there

Is MMBS more dense than TPAB?

Because DAMN is, but I'd put MMBS on the level of GKMC & S.80

    That’s hard.
I gotta go with (in no order):
Mother, i Sober (perfectly done beat and sung hook, with some of the most personal writing I think I’ve ever heard from him)
Worldwide Steppers (really good at capturing how I feel sometimes, as far as vibes and instrumentals go, good lyrics too)
Rich Spirit (insanely infectious hook, great verses, also really good at capturing a certain dread I feel a lot lately)
Mr. Morale (I love this beat so f***ing much, and Kendrick does not let me down with his performance on it)
Savior Interlude (more straightforward but still really really good verse, probably too 3 favorite verses on the album for me)
    What about you?

I was never that into mr morale the song but I got it wedged into my brain earlier this week when listening to the album and now I can’t stop hitting play on it

TBAP was personal, people claim it was political, but to me it's really just about his experiences navigating the music industry as a upcoming rapper, and as a black person in America, the subject matter is inherently "political" I didn't get the feeling when listening to it that he was lecturing me but then again I'm black. I can understand that point of view towards Mr Morale.

I'd argue that rap like Sexy Redd and the more "ignorant" side of rap is more like blaxploitation films in the form of music.

    1. everything is political (at least thats what they tell me).

As a black man, I see your point. For us, we can digest his work differently. But the way in which white people have fetishized the kind of music Kendrick makes (just imo) says some interesting things about how they receive it.

    2. I think this convo about artists like Sexyy are interesting. Bc blaxploitation, originally, was a medium for black people to represent their strength and power through story. And for me, artists like her do a lot to spread joy.

You can talk about the identity and respectability politics of it all. But I think its ignorant for a lot of people (especially black ppl) to dismiss her and artists like her. Alot of "using the white man's tools" type s***.

explaining transgender topics to non-trans people in a nuanced manner is absurdly difficult, kendrick did a good job to me making his story honest and emotional to resonate with even if you dont know any trans folks

This. To me it didn’t feel forced at all, which is always a risk when you talk about modern issues.
It just felt like he was relaying how he felt about his aunt and cousin, and we just happened to hear it

So any album that gets good reviews automatically is critic bait based on what then? Just makes the statement kinda baseless if anything.

No. We going in circles now. If you dont like my explanation of my perspective, thats ok.

If an album is “ trash “ to you just don’t listen . You are acting like you had to purchase it to listen like early 2000s it’s free to listen on YouTube or streaming no exclusive anything . If it doesn’t help your life that’s great . For many who don’t hate their exes and have a solid relationship with women Drake isn’t always lyrically relevant with superficial bars . To each their own

But to constantly tell everyone how you think either one of these artist is trash or dropping trash is insanity

That’s how it happened for me too.
I never hated it, but it wasn’t a favorite, until I listened to it and then like, 6 hours later the beat came into my head.
I was like “this is dope as s***, what is this” and when I finally realized what it was, it all clicked for me

Song literally ends with him saying he chooses his happiness and family over religion don't see how you can be confused about that

I honestly didn’t really focus that much on that one line of the conclusion. You say it like that’s the actual concluding line but it’s not. It’s just part of his speech and I honestly don’t even interpret that line the same as you are

He didn’t say anything about his happiness in that line, you’re adding that

I took that line more as just realizing that religion isn’t always right and humanity and being kind to others is more important
