What does it counting have to do with it being trash. He still make all of those songs. He wrote verses to those songs. He got hooks to those songs.

This is like counting DLDT as a main Drake album

Lupe might be my favorite rapper of all time but kendrick is the better artist objectively. I agree that Lupe is a better lyricist but there's more to music than just lyricism. don't see why this has to be a big thing, Lupe is an OG to Kendrick and not at all a threat in terms of sales or popularity. both in my top 5.

  • Ultimately, Lupe is a GOAT lyricist. Kendrick is a GOAT lyricist.

No it’s not it’s like judging the music you decide to put out regardless of its distinction. If it was fire like IYRTITL it would count so don’t give me this crap about it not counting. Lupe didn’t release as a mixtape or playlist. He released it as an album so it counts.

This narrative that he would’ve been more commercially successful if it weren’t for Atlantic is false to me. He has had a pretty great career. His musical deficiencies are what they are has nothing to do with Atlantic especially right now.

Weren't not saying he would've been more successful than Kendrick if it wasn't for Atlantic, but he would've still held up well in commercial success, released much better albums, and would have been respected a lot more.

Main causes of those musical deficiencies were from his stress under Atlantic and the label pushing him towards those sounds. Even then it was only for Lasers and F&L2, literally rest of his albums are great in that regard besides half of Drogas Light.

Atlantic forced Lupe to adhere to that bullshit too

    Tetsuo & Youth out now
    Pharoah Height 2/30 out now
    Drogas Wave out now
    HOUSE EP out now
Enemy of the State out now

there, thats 5 great projects. thats more than Kendrick has. And we don't even have to talk about pre Lasers Lu.

    Which ones are classics tho

  • Sep 22, 2020

I hope Kendrick disses him. I really do. Lupe always popping s*** but never been in a real beef.

Drogas Wave is not a cult classic. The production was fire and the lyrics were there but it’s nowhere near T&Y or The Cool

Lupe doesn’t do commercial music well bro. I’m sorry. That would’ve been his main stumbling block. Is he amazing but to get to where Kendrick is, he would have to become a better artist. And he himself admitted that he focuses more on the lyrical side of things.

Atlantic f***ed up yes. But there is nothing stopping him now from making that type of music and and T and Y and Drogas wave prove that is his strength.

How does me saying excuses for them blaming Atlantic translate to what Kendrick will and won’t don

Cause you act like I’m making excuses for Lupes career in comparison to Kendrick when I’m not. I’m talking solely about Lupes career aside from that Lup told no lies and Kendrick aint gonna do s*** but drop a weak diss like he did with Jay Elect and Sean

Lupe has had a good career. His success after Atlantic is hindered by them so that’s a moot point. He was never gonna be kendrick or anywhere near becuse he isn’t great enough artistically.

I don’t care about this narrative you are drawing about Kendrick. Lupe is built for the mainstream like you guys want him to me.

He is fine exactly in the pocket he operates in. Battle rap fan, lyrical genius, and great album creator.

He will never have hits. Or any of that. Just leave it alone.

Lupe just gave us Drogas Wave and T and Y and y’all think he really want another shot at the mainstream. He knows it’s not his strength.

You're right, honestly he just sounds awkward and forced doing pop-rap type of music.

Lupe even said something like on Pound Of Flesh "As I get deeper, my beats get weaker" though T&Y and Drogas Wave kinda disprove that. At the start he always focused on the lyrics more than the production, it's even evident in how his songs are mixed

Great album creator is a stretch and I’m a former Lupe stan. Only 3 of his albums are great. His album concepts are fire though

  • Sep 22, 2020

Lupe is a better lyricist but I reckon Kenny will surprise most if they were in a rap beef.
