Prez· editedJay-Z put out an album every year from 1996 - 2003 (8 albums in 8 years).
2pac similarly put out 5 albums in 6 years from 1991-1996.
These guys were prolific, and their albums were not perfectly crafted. All their albums weren't considered classics or flawless. Their albums weren't concept pieces.Kendrick goes about it differently. I think Kendrick legitimately has done no wrong in his career (at least since S.80), but he isn't producing content at the same frequency as those other rappers. I love both strategies because I love the immense amount of great Jay-Z songs I have in my collection, but I also love that Kendrick has such high quality and consistency in his albums. I also wish he wouldn't go on 5 year hiatus in his early 30s, but he's a true artist cultivating albums on a higher level.

TPAB is an internet album. The revisionist history on that has been astounding. That s*** would not crack the top 5 of Hov discography tbh. We would’ve in fact violated Hov for even making it in his prime.

GKMC def a classic. Lowkey his only real one. DAMN second tho. A couple skips but s*** had everything you need.

May 11, 2022AP34:44 washed all that criticism away just recently. The Blueprint 3 and MCHG weren’t praised all that much. Well at least from hip hop heads for sure.
Kingdom Come is still trash lol, but I’ve seen that revisionist treatment myself.
Yeah blueprint 3 was hated on by the older crowd, but it attached more to the younger crowd that were growing up with kanye n cudi. Its a weird one but yeah im not a fan of it myself.
Agreed tho. I think 444 grandfathered him in permanently & upped him way more than he already was.
Wtt kinda did that for him as well but mchg got ppl trashing him again.That era of bp3 to mchg he was teetering back n forth with the love n hate. Then 444 was like the final cementing of his status/career in a positive way.

I can understand him wanting to take a stab at a double disc tho. Im sure most artists have the thought eventually, and with him being in for so long already at that point probably said f*** it why not.

serenadedidn't he say something like "what do you think it means" lol? kendrick has a tendency to not really debunk any insane theories fans has about his music because he kinda likes having the mystique about him, i think. that's why he put out the reverse order DAMN. as a collectors edition, even though the album doesn't really make sense backwards.

When TPAB dropped s*** was not really outside compared to GKMC and DAMN. Alright was the kind of the only one and to this the day the only song on that album I ever hear outside of when I personally listen to it.
