DAMN. story ends with GOD., a very spiritual sounding song where Kendrick basically realizes that god is the only thing that matters to him
It's obvious that he's been on a spiritual journey the last few years and he took the time to learn more about himself
This is gonna be his most self reflective album I think
I think he's finally at a point in his life that he wanted to reach since the Kendrick Lamar EP
"I wanna be the highest, on top of all the bullshit
The negative you bring, the stress, the violence
The capital punishment, the loud police sirens
Too focused, one word, righteous
And this is Kendrick Lamar, and soon ya'll know Cloud 9, ya'll
That means I wanna be the highest
Too focused, one word, righteous
That means I wanna be the highest
Too focused, one word"
I wonder if this album is gonna have a more happy sound tho
He also doesn't try to dress like a star anymore he just puts on whatever clothes he's comfortable wearing
Idk maybe I'm reading into it too much
Goddamn DAMN is my fav Kenny album.
Specially cuz of moments in my life it came hand in hand with. Getting into college with all odds against me and bumping God that night. Falling in love with my ex with Love. being the background music.
Good a***ysis tho.
yeah when leaving all bias aside, I consider damn as kendrick's magnum opus tbh
the only kendrick album I don't give a f*** about is gkmc tbh

Wowww fr?
That’s so funny cuz all bias aside that’s what I think is Kendrick’s best album
What about it is boring to you?

i wish GOD. ended the album. DUCKWORTH is cool but it feels like a bonus coming after GOD.

I never said gkmc was boring, but quality wise, its his weakest project imho
on a subjective level, its probably my 3rd favorite kendrick project though, above s80. But all bias aside, I'd have to rank s80 higher than gkmc in my book.

DAMN. doesn't necessarily end with GOD., my bad, just Kendrick's journey as he confesses all his failures and cleanse himself of the sin that has plagued him throughout the album, he is finally free and filled with the Lord's spirit
DUCKWORTH. is the final song about the author, and about how kindness (weakness) can lead to life, it ties the album perfectly
But like I said I think the next album is gonna be a continuation from GOD. as all his albums are about his life and it seems like he's in a different space in his life, a positive one
i wish GOD. ended the album. DUCKWORTH is cool but it feels like a bonus coming after GOD.
I like that about his labums tbh he always got 2 closers, one to finish the story and the other is like an epilogue (Ab-Soul Outro-Hiiipower, Real-Compton, i-Mortal Man, GOD-DUCKWORTH)
Zacari in top dogs live said Kendrick is done making music
I would literally shed a tear but I know he is kidding

punch said his music is coming soon, like soon soon

This ain't even funny smh

Honestly I can see this album being the last chapter to Kendrick if this album takes the direction I'm thinking where Kendrick is finally at peace with himself and he stops trying to point fingers ("It was always me vs the world, until I found it's me vs me"), his music was always an outlet for him to express himself and grow as a person
Maybe that's why this album is taking the most time to make because he wants to leave on a good note
hope not but I can see it happening, maybe that's why he made pgLang because he wants to help develop other artists and maybe try different things
It's hard for me to imagine what more he got to rap about since he touched on so many topics in his music already but you never know

Naw bro, I don't see Kendrick retiring soon. He's still young, still in his prime, and there's still so much stuff going on in the world for him to touch on content-wise, so it's not like he's gonna have writer's block or anything.
Kendrick ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

I remember Joe Budden predicted same thing about Kendrick retiring in next 1-2 years and he seemed quite sure about it , but that was ofcourse before corona.

Yeah I'm just going off what Zacari said but he's probably 100% trolling

That's crazy I never would've thought about this lyric this way
This whole time I thought the line was him describing himself but it makes sense in the context of the song

It's just not just his pen game it's his way of looking at things makes him a remarkable artist of our time. There might be many more instances like this .

Yeah he's a deep thinker, there's some good annotations that he did on RG when GKMC dropped genius.com/artists/Kendrick-lamar
I wish he did this more
