I just never understood this like 2020s idea of all this like expectation from entertainers that engage with political content to have to perform their alliance with global issues like yes it’s cool when an artist is that educated and engaged and stuff but it’s always been a p rare and flawed thing and it’s all gonna be hyper a***yzed and critiqued anyway at the level of size someone like Kendrick Lamar is, buddy has always spoken about political s*** through the lens of specifically his experience and interaction with it he prolly didn’t know s*** about Palestine pre 2023 I don’t think he’d have much valuable to say on it maybe tho but like he always does that in albums and he hasn’t dropped. It’s like a checklist of stuff whenever something important is happening of ppl being like “erm what does this rapper have to say about it” I could never understand that at all esp post mr morale

Yea like all the mentions of politics are almost all in his studio albums deadass very directly into how it relates to his experience because his existence is very politicized Kendrick was never to me a political a***yst or anything it’s the social commentary and lessons he extracts out of his personal experiences communicated thru great emotional depth. It’s not like he really talks about economic stuff on a macro level or anything like that it’s mostly social and socioeconomic and on the micro scale (him, the people around him, the place he grew up, how it affects said people, the industry he interacts with)

Like im tryna talk ab my life and views and now for life I gotta be up to date like the news and give the most perfect nuanced statement on s*** to account for intersectionism and capitalism and all this s*** like all my fav conscious rappers have flaws in their worldview man they r just great writers that know how to hit it on the head when it counts
