    luther

Wild how this blows the poppy tracks on Morale out the water, despite being in the same lane.

an honest, unironic unbiased rating of the album:

track 1: will never hate a spittin intro but ambiguous censor bars will never not be corny, kendrick flow is alright but pretty standard, the bars are subliminal which is what he hated about drake XXXDDD? but whatever

squabble up: has the ZEZE effect, does not live up to the snippet, the sample DOES NOT fit at all and kendrick's hook is like... ???? is bro trying?

luther: this is kendrick's best vocal performance on the album, the jack strings thru guitar and harpsichord create an ethereal and biblical foundation for sza's gorgeous vocals to be set in

man at the garden: equipped with stock rain effects and base drumkits, kendrick spits about "deserving it all" without providing any blueprint or proof to his claim. this is truly the track where his holier than thou ego sets in, he believes that he deserves the crown because... what?

hey now: this is where the jack antonoff production peaks, the reverberating chant makes a hypnotizing effect that compliments kendrick's (lets be real) lackluster flow. the production on this track is stellar but I can't listen to kendrick's repeated "hey now say now" repeated line without thinking that this beat was wasted.

reincarnated: this is kendrick's best soul track. he picked the beat and rhythm to just spit raw what was on his mind. this is what I hoped he could articulate in more tracks.

TV OFF: This is the best beat DJ Mustard's ghost producers ever came up with. Kendrick tries too hard to make a catchy hook on the front end of this track, all the heat comes after the beat switch when he scream MUSTARRRRRRRRRRRRD. Even a Uzi stan like myself can appreciate how culturally hype that shout was.

dodger blue: this could be the best beat on the album, but certainly kendrick's second best vocal performance thus far. this is the first time on his album where he's showcasing true Los Angeles talent (Siete7x and Wallie the Sensie), not that they're the only up and comers from LA on the album but this feels like the first time that they've been put front and centre,

peekaboo: this is the first time i arrived to a song that truly felt like it was rushed to be on the album. the beat, the flow, it feels like it could've been left off. It features vocals from AzChike, but will anyone really remember that verse?

HEART PART 6: This the track Kenny locked in lyricism wise and we all know why, and while I'm sure his diehards will appreciate the deepcut namedrops I don't think anyone will agree it substantiates the hostile takeover of The Heart series that Drake put on.

GNX: this is far and away the worst track on the album. This is what tells us that Kendrick was tryna rush the album out and it's a weird fumble from someone who is otherwise quite reserved on releases.

gloria: this is the emotion i was hoping from kendrick the entire time, he speaks from the soul but tragically it is over the worst beat and it doesn't leave sza much to work with,

aint no one readin allat big dawg

Love Morale but the poppier tracks stand out like a sore thumb

    WRU

Who are the weed carrier features on this btw? Admittedly I’m out of touch with the west coast rap scene

why are you phrasing it like this then

Because I have no idea who they are and I don’t think they really contributed anything worthwhile. Nothing terrible just think the album would be stronger with Kendrick verses in their place

was my same sentiment for Morale, felt like he executed the poppier songs on DAMN miles better

it’s clear he can still do it with the songs on this album, space was just strange for Morale ig

I don't really like Die Hard

Outside of that piano outro, it just sounds like a cookie cutter two-step joint
