    My main gripe with other NYers is that we got the most to say about every other region's sound but we left our guys dead in the water either due to hate or some other s***.

    When Kendrick & Rocky were coming up at the same time, LA embraced Kendrick while a lot of our OGs was hating on Rocky for not sounding like Dipset or some s*** lol

    Yet at the same time our OGs and Gatekeepers wouldn't give Joey Badass and the beast coast niggas any play or motion because their "names" weren't big enough so they had to run to the internet to get love

    After Pop Smoke got killed the Brooklyn drill scene just devolved into niggas doing Christian Bale's Batman voice while ignoring the other elements of what made Pop stand out.

    And that's not even getting into niggas not acknowledging the lesser known acts like MIKE

    Proud NYer for life but where we at in rap is completely our own fault due to ego and hubris lol

    I love Griselda because it feels authentic to me, someone who’s not from the east coast. You can tell they’re not faking the funk.

    I was at Fool's Gold Day Off when MIKE performed, it was also early and there was like 50 ppl in the crowd.

    I knew he would be special right then.

    Slums thread on KTT was barely off the ground at the time. I hope he gets his due.

    It’s okay if you don’t like the “west coast” sound, but we really don’t give a s*** out west. Take it or leave It, it’s whatever. I’m just glad he’s unapologetically embracing where he’s from and not doing the boring cookie cutter trap or drill mainstream sound that everyone’s doing.

    Regions need to get back to that. That's what made Jay's collabs with dudes like Juvenile and them so important and interesting because you'd get two perspectives with them NY & N.O. styles merging.

    S*** don't hit the same when everybody's doing the same sound lol

  • At the end of the day Kendrick delivered all year. He basically had a flawless year.

    im not super familiar with the west coast / hyphy sounds besides the essentials dre, snoop, pac, e-40, etc but i respect kendrick for honing into that sounds for a whole album and bringing it to the mainstream

    S*** got a lot of west coast influence as well, it’s just more focused on Funk and Jazz than hip-hop influences.

    Kenny has always had west coast influence on all of his albums.
