I think that the beef definitely helped get him to new audiences and put a spotlight on him and his music, eventually expanding to his older work, but if it were only as simple as that, the effect wouldn’t be this enduring. His numbers would be back to pre beef stats by now if people weren’t f***ing with it.
I think that the fact that that new audience has stuck around is a testament to his work and its ability to move people.
The beef stimulus argument isn’t exactly wrong, but it doesn’t tell the full story in that way, imo.
