It definitely did bad to his status. People were saying he was the biggest artist in the world due to After Hours' success and then getting invited to do the SB.
His status was compared to Drake's. The numbers showed that they are nowhere near each other.

Drake fans never have to cope. #1 now and GOAT. It’s been a blessed era, thanks Aubrey

I'd say it's The Weeknd. Post is another obvious one but everyone was expecting him to underperform since all his singles flopped. Dawn FM's numbers came as a big surprise to everyone, no one imagined him selling 148K and getting outsold by Gunna. People were saying he's the biggest artist on the planet b4 the drop

Dawn FM cemented Abel's critical acclaim status

    Sales aren't everything

No way, in real life or any fantasy people on this site create, is Dawn FM an L.

So in your opinion is gunna bigger than the weeknd now that he outsold him? If you say no then stop using sales as a crutch to determine stupid s*** like this.

Dawn FM's sales is an L. His first album without bundles and he sold 450K less than Drake.

The quality of the album is a different thing. Personally I haven't gone back to it and I think AH is much better. The reactions were pretty mixed when it dropped, although the critics ofc gave it a 10/10 2 hours after it was released.

So you do think that The Weeknd is at Drake's level popularity wise? Not talking about quality.

How do you know what the label wanted, though?

    Sales were lackluster

    10/10 is 100% deserved

Abel doesn't have to be Drake level popular to make amazing music

The reactions were of Drake stans who hate Abel and people caping for Gunna just to clown

    Dawn FM still AOTY

I think Jack will be fine. His career never really reached a massive peak commercially so you can't say he fell off. He'll keep scoring hits and that should be enough for now.

Is. Gunna. More. Popular. Than. The weeknd. Now. That. He. Outsold. Him.

Realized a while ago that the takes I see here and other places online are literally just for people online. No one in a normal setting cares and just wants to hear music that puts them in a good vibe, regardless of the artist

It’s when you have the influence of “well everyone else doesn’t like it” (when its literally just people always online giving their opinion like it fact) that you don’t even give song a chance and your aux game becomes trash

This is false. It voided the narrative/perception that he was the biggest/one of the biggest artists in the world commercially. That's definitely a negative for him.

He had an argument to be the biggest artist during his AH era, Dawnfm had a s*** rollout thats all.

This is a cope. Rollouts don't matter in this era of music. That's been proven several time already. An artist in the Weeknd's level doesn't need a rollout to have a successful album. Stop using that as an excuse for when an album by an established mainstream act flops.

Well, none of this matters. It's not a good enough reason for why Dawn FM flopped. It flopped simply because people didn't connect with the music. Any other reason is nothing more than an excuse.

I don't think a rollout would have helped Dawn FM commercially, even if he shipped week 1 it would have just moved his boost to fw.

He doubled down on a style that was losing public favor. Even if the music wasn't bad, people were getting tired of it.

In what world is it AOTY? Not culturally, not critically and not commercially lol. No one talks about that album anywhere. It's almost like it never happened. Any album with a legit claim for being the AOTY will at least have consistent debates/discussions on its side and Dawn FM doesn't even have that.

Well I'm talking more about him being the biggest artist in the world during his AH era, but he idc if it sounds like a cope, Dawnfm had a bad rollout and wasn't intended to be as mainstream as After Hours
