I disagree. He did 492k with 4YEO in 2016, 397k with KOD in 2018 and 282k with TOS in 2021. His numbers keep dropping significantly.
KOD was a misstep for most fans. It’s his lowest streamed album right now. Fans love The Off Season from what I’ve seen so he’s going in the right direction. I think the drop has calmed down and we won’t see a drop from his next album. I’m predicting an increase.

The average listener listens to music passively rather than actively. The average person probably couldn’t tell you how long Kendrick was gone for, nor would the average person dislike this album so strongly that they wouldn’t listen to another release - a release that will undoubtedly be hyped regardless. Each rollout can be its own thing.
Eminem as an example: he took a 4 year hiatus, came back and dropped an album that was received terribly and had his worst sales since his debut. 10 months later dropped an album with 0 promo and sold more.

Cole’s 100k drop each album from his career high is actually tame tbh. A lot of other artists don’t hold up that well.
