when i was teaching last year, disconcertingly, my students seemed to listen to the same people i did when i was their age. they did play it up once they found out i listened to rap. and it's not like i went out of my way to engage.

but even when i let some of the graduating kids follow me on IG, they were listening to artists of my generation.

i will say drake had more cultural capital, but kids listened to dot. i wasn't there when GNX was released so i can't speak on it but they loved tyler's stuff.

Lil Wayne is literally the biggest influence of most of the Atlanta rappers that have been popping. And also his connection to Drake has made sure his legacy will stay for a long time. Guys almost always been in my top 5 Spotify wrapped every year just cuz he has so many classic songs
