Mafia BossI disagree as @fader says its the same people buying the album 20 times. For someone like Taylor the people who bought now would have bought it in 2015 but she wasnt be as desperate for breaking records and have 80 versions to buy. This multiple versions s*** only works when you have stans. Pre streaming people usually bough main album or target version or deluxe. Very rarely did people 30 of the same albums.
Taylor makes music for people who buy 15 different editions of the same book they'll never crack open, and that's not hyperbole

kasich2032again, she has record amount of unique listeners on release week, it was 13 million on spotify a lone last time, this time will be even higher. if those people doesnt have the option to stream, and had to buy physicals like in the 2010s, then she'd get much higher than just 3m. she wasnt nearly as big back in the 2010s though.
You’re forgetting the fact that streaming is a passive form of support, and there are plenty of people (myself included) who only listened to the album just to see how it was because of how already-popular she is.
Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have bought this album to hear it.
And again, I still don’t know how you can act like her historic sales are not mostly due to the fact that her fans buy her physicals multiple times over. Nobody did this for 25 when it dropped in 2015:

Also, it’s funny that you mention the “unique listeners” thing, because, despite her meteoric peak in popularity this decade, she has only led Spotify in monthly listeners for three months out of this entire decade:
- November 2022
- November 2023
- December 2023
I think this is further proof that her first week sales totals are heavily bolstered by hundreds of thousands of fans that buy multiple copies of the same album to collect every variant.
Her peak monthly listeners total is 116M, which is 5th all-time on the platform, behind Bruno Mars (151M), The Weeknd (126M), Lady Gaga (124M), and Ariana Grande (123M)

Harlemrap fans don't seriously care about sales is a crazy statement to me
especially when rap artists themselves probably care the most about sales out of any genre artist and put it on wax consistently. the fans care by extension and because the genre is so competitive by nature
