Every “extremely catchy” Pop smash I can think of has a line that you can sing and everybody immediately knows what time it is.

Lose Control, A Bar Song, Ordinary, etc spending 800 weeks in the upper chart it’s really not as simple as “catchiness” when the songs the public won’t let go of aren’t even particularly catchy

It is not hugely catchy. Being a hit /=/ being hugely catchy.

The song is big with 45 year old white soccer moms who also would buy Celine Dion CDs, Susan Boyle, and Michael Buble Xmas music.

It is safe inoffensive elevator music that serves as comfort background music.

Inoffensive, boring, completely safe, Adult Contemporary music like Lose Control/Ordinary taking over is literally the opposite of catchiness having appeal.

That ain’t making upbeat, fun, or Summer music. S*** is Mormon church music for a 50 year old Republican to play.
