Whatever happened to those d'amelio what's their names...the ones on tik Tok who were famous for no reason

Nobody knows and nobody cares. Another example of how streaming is a fad

    I'm talking about stars

the 2000s (especially later) didn't really spawn many global superstars

Maybe not, but in the 2000s star power was absolutely 100% still a thing. It didn’t really die out until the mid-2010s, and we are slowly making a return to it with this next generation of talent

Exactly. TikTok hype isn't real. They missed out to build their status outside of this platform and thats the reason nobody cares anymore about them.

Addison Rae was smarter in this case. She knew her hype on TikTok wouldn't last forever so she tried to build her market outside of it while she was still big on TikTok

They weren't even streamers lol, they just danced & their popularity died because they weren't popular for their personalities, they were popular for cringe dances, which isn't popular anymore

Sabrina Carpenter just captured the mainstream literally one year ago what are you talking about

Yeah that's fair she managed it, hopefully she manages to keep it. But I'm telling you, if she released that quality of music in the 90s/2000s, you'd never escape her name

Bingo. If you see a musician pivoting to streaming/being an influencer, they’re seen a failed artist. But if you see an influencer pivoting to music, it’s seen as smart

She dropped a smash album less than a year ago, and has a new single coming out on Thursday.

Idk why some of y’all act like if an artist isn’t in your face 24/7 they fell off or something. She’s still absolutely huge

nah but compare sabrina's 2024 to some of the giant pop years in 2000s, it doesnt compare

i don't think that's due to the quality of the music, its due to people not caring about muisic as much

& even that will never be a huge thing because look at people like DDG

If you love DDG's music and also him, you'll likely most your time watching his content instead of music, that f***s his music's popularity over

i know if ye/drake streamed a few hours a day in their peaks I would have listened to their music way less

“Steph Curry’s 2016 doesn’t compare to Michael Jordan’s 1990s years so he’s not as popular”

    Is how you sound

Can't be too sure about that. She just had an entire album era with 3 mega singles less than a year ago. People might not be ready for a new single from her yet.

Right 🤣 basically every social media influencer that appeals to teens and young adults drop a song. Its like a right of passage lmao.

Because the point is that streaming and tiktok are platforms that didn't exist anywhere near like this 10 years ago.

My opinion is basically that those two things +(plus youtube) have stolen a lot of attention away from music. Attention is completely limited. 16 year old kids looked up to musicians mostly in the 80s/90s/00s/10s. But now they're looking up to streamers.

21 year old women were looking up to the latest hot popstar. Now they're looking up to all these vloggers and tiktok influencers.

this has had a big negative impact on the cultural impact that music has on society

Twitch has been around since 2014 and Vine was basically TikTok before TikTok lol

But to your point, the reason why streamers are getting so big and having this much influence is because the “traditional” celebrity is not relatable to Gen Z, it’s not just necessarily about the music

My gen relates more to a youtuber or streamer that films their life than a celebrity that makes brand posts on IG in designer clothes because it’s easier to see themselves and be closer to an influencer than a celebrity who lives a lifestyle that’s not attainable for most people
